I generally feel that way about my job; Many of our customers are small/medium businesses and we know the folks names who call us :-)

And a good chunk of my job is about being green (yes, we suck down power, but 1/2 as much as if these folks had these servers in a closet,

it makes a difference. my job, while it aids business, does not really, imho, make the world "better" :-)

Gracie, you work at a hospital; I promise that you help save the world every day. It's just the mobile bits, not the water and land bits!

actually, the gentleman i heard was talking about quality of life for humans, not so much environment. you ARE healing the world, Gracie.

the gentleman i heard does security for computer systems - he's a software engineer. he views his job as protecting people from "bad guys"

so you see - it really isn't the job per se, but his attitude toward it.

People don't come to NYC to be saved. Nope, they surely don't.
