No... people accepted the 'truth' that the Earth was flat, largely by consensus. Slavery was (and still is) accepted by consensus.

It's very possible for a majority to believe something totally wrong.

and it happens all of the time.

There's a lot to be said for questioning the 'norm' on a regular basis.
