/sits very literally gaping at these lyrics.
howhaveIneverheardthisbefore.....
But in the end such tired words will rest.
The truth will reroute the narrow things they've said.
The marionette strings will lower and untie
And out of the ashes, love will be realized.
God knows that we've been naive
And a bit nearsighted to say the least
It's broken glass at children's feet
That gets swept aside unexpectedly
/slapping facepalm. They are from Wheaton. Go figure.
It's pretty but I don't know what to feel about the lyrics :|a
like if I take it slightly more literal I'm a little more inclined to frown but if I take it abstractly I really like it
I think I like it because it's my worldview in five stanzas |D
I've never really liked the viewpoint that the church exists to control/extort/manipulate/etc people and that's a little of what I get
from the lyrics, hence the inclination to frown.
Hoh hum. I sit here and listen and it's very pretty and moving and were it not for that slight impression, I'd really like it.
heh, well. As someone pretty passionately in love with the early Church and patristic theologians, I can agree.
but I think that is more the reaction of the uninformed, that you are maybe talking about.
the "true" Church, if you want to speak of it in the spiritual sense, has been as vigorous about condemning manipulation through religion
as any outside critic, from its very beginning
this is a Christian band, actually. The song is more expressing how it feels to believe something-- and see it so abused and mis-stated
to the point where even the words "church" and "Christian" become something that is hard for you not to associate with your dissapointments
and the last stanza is about how that is just a surface impression!
"But in the end such tired words will rest.
The truth will reroute the narrow things they've said."
there is a big difference between the "Church" in the body-of-Christ sense.... and the church as a business/human organization, I'd say.
it really is a song that gets me thinking about it seriously
heh, some days it's all I can think about |D
"fear ties knots" -- that's how I'd describe the popular views of "evangelical" conservatism in America, as it's politically voiced
and I think that "and a bit-nearsighted to say the least" is a pretty merciful description, in that sense
That is really, really cool
I'm discovering there's a lot to love about their lyrics...
aw, you're still listening to them here and there? That makes me happy.

Glad someone else likes them too. ^^
