Not perfect; still the closest thing.
Good writing; incredibly over-rated in every other aspect.
Fyeah Mike Mignola. Steampunk Batman done right.
Fantastic color; fantastic villain segments; less-than-fantastic gangsters. Extra twist ending is awful.
Everything Miller's All Star Batman and Robin was not. Great Two Face story.
Best I've read. Only title not to ultimately feel "overrated".
Tight stories/pacing; artistic FLARE; juxtaposed cartoonish art and dark stories is Batman perfectly balanced.
Intriguing idea; pitch-perfect psychosis art. But ultimately? **Trite.** Author inept with profundities.
You can't have punctuation in the bold
thank you B| /was glaring at plurk
Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader
Neil Gaiman you are the "almost" writer. Fantastic conceit, but ultimately not pushed to its potential. Weak ending. Still made me tear up.
Some really good writing in places, great potential for pathos. All of this ultimately squandered. Watch the movie.
Squandering, exhibit A. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. With just enough pathos lingering around to make it disappointing.
NOT REVIEW: Battle for the Cowl
Forget what I said about Lost Days.
THIS was too stupid to read.
lol Battle for the Cowl...
I like to pretend none of that ever happened.
I like to pretend that the entire .... most of Jason Todd stuff has not happened.
as in, everything that isn't GOOD.
Which is...like 90% of his stuff.
I made the mistake of reading the lauded classics first.
I thought all of Batman would be that good. 8|
Jason is like DC's trouble child. They switch between locking him in a closet and trying to do something to make fans like him again.
it is SO TRUE. He gets abused as much on the 4th wall level as in actual canon.
and it kills me, because there are SUCH INTERESTING concepts to look into, there.
...the thing about Jason is that SO FEW PEOPLE know how to actually write him, but so many people TRY.
So even when he has his good moments, he's inevitably going to go back to being physically painful to read when someone else
sticks their hand into this moldy cookie jar.
Although I suppose the same could be said of just about any DC character/continuity.
this is definitely true. I feel like the structure of the way they produce things is at the heart of it.
freedom to let an author really own a story, instead of slaving under continuity, always produces better stuff
that's why most of the best Batman comics were one-shots
i've been spoiled by the fantastic Jason RPer i play with, lol
i can't stand most of his stuff.... but Red Hood and the Outlaws hasn't been too bad so far
Jay seems more well-adjusted, though i really really hope they go into backstory about that
yeah, the tumblr blogs I follow seemed to enjoy the direction they were taking
admittedly i've only read one issue, but...
well, hopefully the reboot gives the writers the chance to get their shit together
...i also hope they give Starfire more of a personality. So far she just seems to be the token loose (alien) woman on the team
......don't get me wrong from that description, i think they did a good job explaining her mentality/why she does tht
but..... still. More development would be nice
the old stuff I've read with her is really interesting? I don't know, as I haven't read much.
old being.... idk late 70s/80s.
well, they changed her a bit too. I think something about how they're having less aliens in the newer stuff? idk
she's a lot more alien. According to Jason, she sees humans as sort of... lights and noise, and can't really tell them apart
or remember them for very long
.....................wow.
....at least they got him out of that hideous costume.
also, i am of the opinion that Jason can see dead people now /nodnod
that 'Essence' person they were tlaking about--neither Roy nor Starfire could see her
it just looked like Jay was over by the bar talking to himself /laughs
