this is generally why I steer more towards manga than comic books. It's easier to spot the crap a mile away before you get your hopes up.

My boyfriend's been trying to introduce me to comics but the only ones I've even remotely enjoyed are deadpool
and that's entirely for the silliness and nothing else :T
a lot of it is HOW you get into it
I HIGHLY recommend reading one-shots and best-known TPBs
like the Dark Knight Returns
or Batman: Year One
and I personally love starting at the beginning with the old stuff-- Marvel has the Essentials volumes, for example
The Dark Phoenix Saga is just classic

I do! Although my favorite American comics will always be Hellboy and Sandman.
Fables is the only series I follow
I haven't checked out BPRD yet, but it should be fantastic
OH yes. I can't really get into Fables, for some reason, but it is definitely better than a lot of stuff out there
Fables has great stories, but sometimes the characters fall flat.
also anything Bruce Timm has done / = writer of Batman animated
I just bought 'Mad Love and Other Stories" because it is so awesome
