lt; Can this work for 40K? THAT'S WHAT I'LL ASK FOR
For 40K my favourite male has gotta be Yarrick.
Good old commissar Sebastien Yarrick has been the soulful bombast of 40K since its begining.
I love the whole broken but unbowed aspect of his charcater - plus his miriade of age related problems.
I love characters that are thickly layerd so the old man fits that nicely.
40K being such a male dominated game, the women folk often do slip between the cracks, however, whilst the battlfield is spartan with
heroins, the fluff and books are not.
It would be, I feel, crass of me to go for a Soritas, so instead I'll go for Euphrati Keeler, remembrancer of the 63rd expoditionary fleet.
She's one of the only examples of a spunky, vunerable and intellegent in the sci medium that I've seen done well.
The fact that she is so far out of her depth at the end - smuggling a rogue saint and her advisor out of hostile terratory during the midst
of the largest civil war the galaxy has ever seen.
Relationships in the medium of 40K dont work out well, trust me on this, but as we're on the ball with this so far I'll continue.
M/F - Ciaphias Cain and Amberly Vail. He's just after her body and she's just after his reputation as a competant bad ass - which he's not.
That and the whole "your best friends a psychic blank" thing.
F/F - Midge and Vor from the same serise as the above. Two guards(wo)men, one of whom is the veteran sergeant of the companies best scouts
and the other is the regimental boxing champion.
Both very proffessional, very private with their relationship, I remember reading their bits and getting really choked up when Midge dies.
M/M - cant say I know of any cannonically M/M sexual relationships within 40K, so I'll settle for the abusive and hateful relationship
between Garviel Loken and Tarik Torgaddon.
Kidding, they are actaully best friends; Tarik the talker and the laugher, Garvi the more somber straight up and down one.
They bounce off each other nicely - each one compensating for the others flaws. Very friendly relationship.
Least favourite male.....
Its hard in general for me to pick 40k characters that I dont like in some way.
40k being both a game and a story means that if they have bad rules then they might have good fluff and visaversa.
Guilliman. Ok, we'll go with Robute Guilliman; he's cold, but not villain cold. He's like a high functioning autistic crosswed with a robot.
His lack of character - being a Primarch he is only presence in the fluff - is his undoing in my eyes. Some may well like that calculating
Plus the fact that his every action is self preserving. He's a bit of an allround git.
I would say Lilith Hespirax as she is mostly just a bit of TnA for the boys which I've always thought a bit crass.
That said she is a monster of a character so I cant damn Lilith for all my prudishness.
Yup, she show up out of the blue and is all of a sudden up in my face like a little flying ant, going whine, angst whine angst, I'm blue,
No, Shadowsun, I will not.
For the ships in gerneral I'll just say all of them.
I hate seeing people mash together two cannon characters and declare that they are in love.
For that matter I hate that it gets called love as well, as more often than not a moment of agressive male tension will be interpreted as
love which I dont get. And with so much male agression in 40k... well you get the idea. This is why so few people have fan communities for
40k relationships. 40K is about war, the musclebound, meatheaded need for violent bloody death.
Love can bloom on the battlefield, not saying it doesn't, but not in 40k. Please not in 40k.
