that the plethora of new social apps will make everything useless or everything will migrate to be one and the same.

not so sure. each app is like layers of trace in a design studio, examinations of the same/similar concept in different form.
MsHerr says

some differences are slight, some significant, but each iteration is a new study. users will self select based on app attributes & friends.

Yes, but do you think that some users will get lost in the process?

believes they will probably stay in tact, but users will be drawn to what works best for them, while being confused by all the others.

users (including biz) find what works for them. we play where the people we want to play w/ are. & also realize we can't play w/ everyone.

we're all different of course. I'm not sure that Plurk is particularly efficient

that this type of discussion can be had meaningfully on Plurk, but the filtration feels more cumbersome than w/ other apps

uses twitter a lot, and easily with cellphone too, and (when it's working) on the PC with IM.
MsHerr feels

strong love and loyalty to Twitter despite significant frustration w/ its downtimes & currently disfunctional track feature

I like the way, with Twitter, how I can seemlessly switch from desktop (like now), to SMS when I go out later.

Plurk far more than Twitter, despite Twitter's higher amount of users, as Plurk is obviously the more interactive.
Eyebee

notices that plurk is fun, and more interactive, but it is by far the larger consumer of time. I like BrightKite veyr much too
