[movie thoughts] for Thanksgiving weekend so far: Alien, Aliens, The Fly, Breaking Dawn, Smoke Signals
.....wow. I watch a lot of movies when I'm not going through a TV series. And stuff.
friggin masterpiece. The most beautiful scifi film I've seen, second only to Blade Runner. Ridley Scott is possibly
my favorite sci fi or just VISUAL director
nowhere near as good as I'd heard from friends who saw it when it came out
do later action movies owe a lot to it? sure, maybe that's true. but seeing it NOW? after Avatar, and everything in between? it was a lot
of action cliches, type-characters instead of real people, a diluted sense of emotion and urgency
a Moppet who didn't act like a real kid
and a pretty kickass ending
but yeah, doesn't even compare to Alien, imo.
fantastic, made me cry when I was expecting just to cringe.
simple, poignant, with visceral effects that beat the living shit out of CGI any day
Goldblum is perfect for the role, too
psychosexual without being trite or heavy handed on the pop psychology
I can see why del Toro loves Cronenberg
aha. I don't even know why this is on the list .
very good. a little cleaned-up, sanitized-feeling? but still sincere and authentic independent film produced by
and about indigenous Americans
great sense of humor, and a sense that it was culturally owned humor.
really looking forward to the even-better reviewed Fast Runner
