break a leg? where DID that saying come from. ?

that doesn't even seem like it would be a nice thing to say but yet we all use it when we want someone to do good..

what is that all about

break someone else's leg??? maybe it was in the mid-evil times when an enemy would be casing after them. . .

it comes from acting. in acting its bad luck to say good luck, so they say break a leg.

and they'd say "BREAK A LEG!" and when they did they WERE SAVED!

I realize it comes from acting and the don't say "Good Luck" thing, what I don't know is WHY they say THAT instead. It still doesn't sound

like a good thing!

it's just a superstition that theatre performers had. They thought it was BAD luck to say "good luck",so they chose something that

didn't sound very lucky instead. (hence "break a leg")
