I visited with a student the other day that referred to all fractions as "halves." He is really confused.

very odd...maybe they feel that the general public did not learn that in 5th grade.

they didn't learn that in xth grade. i get students who feel confortable saying I don't do fractions

DevSpamNull: IMO fractions are an important skill to learn. They are such a part of our daily lives whether they like them or not.

Maybe the news shows should give out that info along with the other important stuff they tell us, like dress warm in the winter or drink
