Whether it passes or not, to say you are ashamed of people that are supporting the black out day really isn't making you look like a good

friend. I'm not saying this to be mean at all, but it is their belief and their right to support whatever causes they feel strongly about,

this being one of them, and as a friend, you shouldn't judge them or be ashamed of them as you said based on their beliefs.
