open dns actually kinda scares me. What about man-in-the-middle attacks for my wellsfargo.com etc. Despite their crappy service…

I'd trust them more than some third party. I dunno. What do you think the security implications are for third party DNS providers?

how about setting up your own dns server at home and get it to query the root servers directly?

you could also setup a resolver dns server at the office but make sure you limit who can do recursive dns queries :-P

if you trust the dns server i have, give me your home IP and i'll add you in to do recursive queries

or you could use the dns machines from campus (unless they restrict access to on campus)
