blogged about the
AP fiasco
- suddenly they don't want to be quoted?
Seriously, the AP is being dumb.

this is remarkably similar to the snafu regarding links to posts a few years back. Could AP be so ignorant?

apparently the guys at the AP think the internet is a series of tubes.

that AP is working on damage control and will relent... the blog-o-sphere is far to powerful

AP's strategy is confusing. We'll see what sort of guidelines they come up with - maybe they will relent.

it is getting harder and harder to see an upside for AP.

does it matter that the AP is a not-for-profit? Or is that really just irrelevant?

NYTimes Bits blog says blogs considering boycott are "hotheaded" - they also suggest boycott
would be ineffective
bloggersblog

big blog boycott would be felt - disagree with Bits

bloggersblog to explain how the AP would be hurt by a blogger boycott? I don't follow. I'm not criticizing, just trying to follow...

how in the AP's response and claims of "rethinking", Jim Kennedy compares using AP quotes to music piracy

no problem
tsutrav
- if bloggers stop linking to ap stores then ap's pageviews would fall
bloggersblog
says

it would also hurt newspapers and websites running ap stories which might make them request ap to back off

i'm not boycotting at this time - just explaining how it could wor.
tsutrav

ok. I didn't realize AP's health was tied to anything other than the 1500 news agencies paying their annual fees
tsutrav
says

but if they are depending/watching web metrics, then you are right, it would be felt
bloggersblog
says

they are a complex entity but the agencies using them definitely need the pageviews
TheBadMonkey
says

It wouldn't have an immediate financial effect, but they would definitely feel it in the long run
bruceturner
says

the greater effect would be in public relations. Nobody wants to be on the bad side of bloggers these days, as they have means to make noise
