1. wage is under minimum wage to start off with '-'a
but with room to increase steadily by $1/hour every so often once i'm fully trained
(it's a waitressing job, but remember that australia doesn't do tips! and when they do, they usually go to the restaurant, not the waitress)
2. i have to go get my RSA licence this week, which, yeah fair enough.
(responsible service of alcohol licence, idk if they call them something different in the states!)
I hope they actually follow through on that promise, so many people I know have been hired for a variety of jobs with that promise, only to
under minimum wage in a country with no tips legal...
I thought the point of minimum wage was that it was . . . the minimum . . .
not get those 'promised' future raises
pbdigital: well the third caveat was that the first two weeks are gonna be on a trial basis! so i will still get paid for them, but like
at the end of those two weeks then we will re-evaluate!
oh, that's not too bad, though if possible at the end of those I would definitely get things in writing or whatever, if possible
because i have... no waitressing experience
'-'a... if it's less for trial period and then actual wages for hire, that is less skeeve
haha, it's a physical job :x but not terribly so like stocking or something
yeah, she said it would increase when i am trained and if i get on well with the staff and such
tips are usually pooled and shared out amongst the staff working, actually!
my tiny sister can manage it okay
but also like, the job is literally five minutes away from where i live
i could walk there in 20 minutes
so i'm not spending any money on commute
tho i do have to fork out money to get the RSA
and most groups or people who think you've done a great job toss a few coins or leave 10%
also i have to go buy some black slacks since i don't have any that fit me any more ha ha
BUT ANYWAY I'M STILL PROUD OF MYSELF
THE WHOLE INTERVIEW WAS IN JAPANESE
it may be worth a shot =|aaa I MEAN NOT TOO MUCH SKIN OFF YOUR BACK??
yeah if they don't give me the raise then i can always just leave. i am not living on my own, i'm not strapped for cash.
i just want... money in my pocket again...
since my savings have depleted almost completely from working in japan
you can even use it as a platform to apply to similar jobs too, with the license
and i would also like to be able to save up enough money to go back to the USA in the future and visit peeps!
anyway we'll see how everything works out.
i'm TENTATIVELY HOPEFUL :x!
if it doesn't work out then it doesn't work out, but at least i am getting off my butt and trying to get back into gear.
If you were living alone I would be sceptical about that job, but as you're not YAY YOU GETTING A JOB
if i were living alone i would be like nope.gif, need to pay rent, need to eat.
but i mooch off my parents, ssso. slightly different.
In some states in the US, being paid well under minimum wage as a server is perfectly legal.
My mom only gets like 2.75 an hour when she waitresses.
zabanya that's because they're expected to make it up in tips, right? I know in canada we're required to pay min wage and not force
I had below min wage jobs that stiffed me on super before I moved out and they were fine really
yeah afaik us federal wage law you can pay half of min wage if the rest is being made up in tips
if the server DOESN'T make up tips, the establishment has to make up their pay so they are getting AT LEAST min wage
which is part of the reason you declare tips!
Yeah, but it sounds like she MIGHT get tips? I'm not sure.
yes, below min is legal for jobs where you get tips. australia not tipping is still weird to me haha.
but since you're not having to support yourself rn (rent etc) i'd go for it for now
Congratulations!
i'm impressed you got it on the spot! go go cassue
