hey, before your sushi mat gets here, how about try to use a ziploc bag or something? that might help

yeah I have some more made and they are in plastic wrap. I'll press it harder together before cutting them.

I rmemeber that people uses a warm towel on table, then put the sushi mat on top of the warm towel

and use that warm towel to roll the bamboo mat up... can't remmeber why tho
