if you do your job well, are real world problems that kids can identify with so they can apply problem solving skills in life.

I get the point that most people will never need Calculus...DH is an engineer and he uses sin/cos/tan in addition to problem solving

Builders, designers, architects? Can't imagine they don't use Algebra. Ok - off soap box
