I do that.

Tape drive ate a tape. I released enough tape to see inside and a release pin hung onto the tape. Next step requires delving into the drive.

I wrote up a work order for our maintenance guys to look at it, and basically described how to fix it.

While the guy was delicately tearing the drive apart I remarked that I was amazed how bold he was. He said he always took his toys apart.

A memory flashed out like, ...like, a cuckoo clock. That antique cuckoo clock that I had to see how to make it work. I killed the cuckoo.

I believe I was forewarned to leave it alone as it was precious to Mom and Dad. All day in panic mode, I tried to fix it. I made it worse.

Did own up to it with Mom. She was furious and got the, "Wait 'til you father gets home." GULP!

THAT! That right there is probably why I don't pull the trigger, don't delve into the clockworks.

That doesn't explain though why I continue to find the cuckoo clock irresistable to play with.

don't delve into other people's clockworks you mean. nothing wrong with experimenting as long as it's your own stuff!

Good point Phee. Other people's clockworks always seem to go off like a time bomb...

still, interesting what can trigger a memory and teach you something about yourself!
