Searching for the ideal will lead to disappointment.
Well what are things in your favorite comics that make them your favorite?
I can't quite find the words for it, but I think personality and character are important. When you read it and you can feel the author's
personality it becomes very interesting. If they put little bits of their daily lives into it, or draw from their own experiences then it
real. And this can apply to comics or just books. I think that if a reader puts the book/comic down and misses the characters then the
author has done their job well. If the characters are that interesting then the plot is almost secondary. But a good plot is important too.
I've been thinking about Calvin and Hobbes lately. I know its not the kind of comic you were probably thinking about but if you've ever
read through one of the treasuries that collect many strips, it can be quite engaging. The characters are relatable because the author
draws from his own experience. If you ever read any interviews of any author you may find that some of the best characters were inspired
by people that the author knew.
Good points! I agree! And I live Calvin and Hobbes! My family was kind of obsessed with them.
We would make our snow men look like the ones Calvin made. A counselor thought I was suicidal when I drew one for him. Also my brother Caleb
Called himself Calvin for almost a year and carried around a stuffed tiger
You should read about the creator, Bill Watterson if you get the chance. Actually any artist that you admire, you should read about...
Chances are they might inspire you in some way. Are you working on a comic yourself?
I am really thinking I would like to do a comic. I like telling stories and I like drawing. Just got to find the time to do it all
