It might actually decrease drag. There was a Mythbuster ep where they golf-ball dimpled a car, and it got better mileage.

I think its activated during braking (like the MP4-12c). So it might be purposely increasing the drag.

from what I read, it's activated during braking and pops halfway up at 88mph... just like Doc Brown's DeLorean...

Could also be a design work around. Given the tail lights don't engulf a portion of the back, giving it a flat design would make it look

like the old Eclipse with the tall bumper.
