Looking up how much scrap metal is in a 2001 Odyssey and this text just crosses my phone, "Just what do you think you're doing, Jeff?" Estimate for transmission, gulp, $4,250.

Calling around, found a place 2 blocks away that estimates $1500 less than that. Also, contacted the dealer that put a new (reman) one in 3 years ago. They're another grand more.

dealer always seems to be more expensive and not usually worth the increased cost on an older car

Call and got much cheaper quotes from reputable recommended sources. Original guy, said he can match if I permit a non-RebuiltByHonda remanufactured Honda Transmission.
