it totally depends on how much effort is put into it first.

its not a real relationship if you dont put an equal amount of effort in it as if you never left each other.

its not a real relationship if you decide to put things on hold and just pick up where you left off when you left each other

but when you can be so far apart from each other and still grow with each other and learn how to do things as a couple then I guess it isnt at all like a real relationship. It's stronger.
