Would you like for us to focus in the dark whimsy, or try to develop more horror elements and add them into the setting?
We had also discussed adding Del Toro's Don't Be Afraid of the Dark to the setting.
Opinions and suggestions are welcome.
I think we should do something a little different from what's been going on the last few weeks
... I read that as Del Taco and got really confused about how tacos were going to be horror...
i would love Don't Be Afraid of the Dark as a separate docking location tbh (maybe combining it with "Burnt Offerings" or something in a similar vein)
as for pan's labyrinth, i think it would be neat to stick to canon... a lot of the "scary" element in the movie has to do with how dangerous/unwieldy and downright creepy the supernatural is
I think this setting is perfect for fantasy type of horror... even if using the creatures from the movie and giving them more powers. Are you familiar with American McGee's Alice, by any chance? It displays
a perfect mesh of fairytale and genuine psychological horror.
I'm canon blind to this, but I think leaving it canon without additions will also help us from getting overloaded with information, allow us to really utilize all that's there without forgetting parts
I think maybe it would be cool if the characters would have to endure tests since that's what the little girl had to do
that might be hard to work out though :|a
i'm guessing probably the location will deal with her being the princess of the underworld or something, maybe characters can be sent on tasks/tests/quests/whatever to open the labyrinth to see her? like if
there are clues somewhere that she can give them ~answers~ or something...
ohhh that would be neat!! i'm thinking about having a del toro marathon at some point for inspiration before the event, if people want to do that :|a
i think this is a nice docking event for people who don't want outright jump scares, and it's got a lot of whimsical, aesthetic elements to it. i think expanding and exploring on where the main charcter goes
character* goes would be enough, mostly. a lot of it is kind of up to the imagination, but less overtly gross. so yeah, i agree, leaving it without huge gross scares this time overall i think would work
yes, subtlety can be good
personally i often find it scarier than the outright gross things
Yess, I will rewatch as well but I like Theresa's idea a lot
also Ru's with the testing
Yeah, I'll have to rewatch Pan's Labyrinth, I've only seen it once...
the stepdad is a bastard okok
some old-world fae elements would be interesting...there's a lot of fucked up, deadly creatures in the old stories that have really obscure weaknesses to ward them off/kill them
hey if we're just looking at Del Toro's stuff let's just throw in some Hellboy and giant robots with GLaD's voice
K8 and I just watched the movie now
and the fantasy is only there for people who believe in it
I think that would be way too limiting to apply to the game version, but maybe a smaller level of it, like idk, the more people believe, the more they see?
but I like the doing tasks things to try to get into the labyrinth
I like the tasks idea as well, the tests. It puts a different angle on things than the usual one. But not too many tests? Just a few would do more, in my opinion, than many options.
