What does this say?

I found it while searching a parish death records for my family. The person is completely unrelated to me, but out of 76 pages of records, his is the only entry with a story added to the record.

The rest of the records are just names, ages and dates. No stories.

Rishy - do you still need this translated? My son can translate Latin. But he'd need you to transcribe it a font that is not hand-written

(I did my best, the handwriting isn't always the easiest to figure out.)

The whole record is a mix of Church latin and polish. Depending on the "hand" (the person entering the records) it is either in Latin or Polish or a mix.

I'm pretty sure that this is all latin though, it's one of the earlier records.

ann should be anno = year

nods we (the classicists) have a very very rough translation. i'm waiting on my church scholar friend. but i think the "ann" in this case is not abbrev for anno but for St Anne's parish.

okay, jaco is right. back to "ann" being for anno. i'm attaching a .jpg file ( i hope). because the translation was rough. discussion amongst translators. but Rrishy- here must be some backstory here!

Thanks Ahuva! That's a great explanation and back story! If they're curious, this is from the St. Joseph (now defunct) parish in Chicago. It was the center for Polish catholics for almost 100 years.

I'm getting the link / path to the actual document so if they want to explore the whole thing, they're welcome to, but like I said before, it was really the only entry with a story attached.

although they'll need to sign up for a free account.

The guy mentioned in this entry isn't a member of my family as far as I know. But it intrigued me enough to see what we can find. :-)

now we need to hire a detective to get the backstory. :-) thanks for giving us an interesting puzzle!
