that is true, but if the person is alive, then the thing that they are living is still a life-even if it is a fruitless one. Just because they're not living to the max doesn't mean they're not living

Not if "living" in this context refers to actually going out and doing something with your life. Existing is just being there. Living is something worthwhile.
