I don't think anyone knows what to do at this point.
I don't think it's a problem of legality, but the accessability.
(Just my personal opinion, open to hear everyone else's as well. - No one knows what's going to work.)
I dunno if people can make gun in their backyards like they can with meth either.
I dunno if it's everywhere, but it's so easy to go to a gun show here and just buy some, with no paperwork.. you know?
But it doesnt remove what's already there.
I mean people can always find a way. But if it's less easy to do so, then it will curve a lot of people who are simply "snapped that day" or "acting on the moment".
I think it needs to be a combination of tougher accessibility, and better mental health care in the US.
In almost every case of gun violence, there are "signs" that have went ignored. Which is sad. People need to be more aware of these signs and get them help.
Agreed Ana. BTW, here is an interesting "Fact Check" about the USA vs Britain & the World, re gun violence.
Disclaimer: I am a Life Member of the NRA and have personally used a firearm to stop a robbery, which the media credited with likely saving a 3rd-party's life
In the UK we faced knife violence all the time, and I was afraid to go out alone. But that's also because the teenagers there are incredibly bored and never get in trouble for any crimes
I won't go too far into this, but Bowling for Columbine really spelled it out - I do think the Media plays a huge part in it as well.
My brother in law was hurt pretty bad and the cops just went.. "Eh, we dunno who it was. Nothing we can do" (THey also took 2 days to show up)
Washu I'm SO sorry to hear about your Brother In Law and the pathetic response by those charged with public safety.
A gun ban advocate asked me why the police weren't enough for me. I answered: Because I can draw & aim my weapon in 3 seconds and the average response time for the police is 13-30 minutes!
I'm just throwing in two sides to the argument ya know? We have better law enforcement in the US that's for sure.
A lot of really bad shit can happen in 13-30 minutes!
And honestly... I'm less concerned with the local criminals than I am the criminals in Washington!
Washu: That's subjective to the area. I waited 2 hours while someone tried to break into my apartment. I made enough noise to wake up my neighbors and scare the guy off, but if I hadn't.. who knows.
A roommate and I have had to use a gun to scare away ppl breaking into the house twice. But I did live in a bad area. And I'm still not pro-gun. Altho I woulda loved to own a taser
It's kind of funny how a lethal thing like guns are legal, and it's illegal for me to carry a small thing of mace/pepperspray.
You can carry mace here, I had one in my bag for years. I stopped now tho... it seems like it would take too long to find if I needed it in a pinch
I can't ever find anything in my purse
I live in Jersey and work in NYC. If I get caught carrying mace in my bag across state lines, I could get arrested. (ridiculous) - but it's still also illegal to have in my residence in NJ.
I am going to a WA state gun show tomorrow. In order to buy or sell a firearm there, you MUST follow a ton of rules and have a membership, which requires a full BG check. Just FYI, not all gun shows are shady.
most people dont realize that because of what the misinformation the media spews out.
