shock of the week- after 20+ years of being the K-8 gifted facilitator in my district, I'm notified they are moving me to high school to set up the gifted program (which has been non-existent to date).
I only have a couple of years until retirement so while setting up a new program is interesting, starting over for my last 2-3 years isn't too appealing.
That I have built the K-8 program is exactly why I was told I'm "needed" at the high school- I'm good with that. It's the principal of the thing (you heard me- the principal doesn't support gifted) that's...
My program was an EC-12 program. I know you will miss the "little kids". Found high school teachers very territorial and the most difficult to work with. Good luck with your program.
I agree with Ginger plus you are very familiar with the lower grade gifted program and can help implement a smooth transition to HS. It is nice to be challenged to do new things in those last couple of years.
