Did it turn at least a close color?

That color is more of an inspiration than a guideline.

it was supposed to go a couple shades brighter than what I already had. Instead, my head approximates a fire engine.

I will probably like it better in a couple of days, but right now all I see in the mirror is "IT WASN'T SUPPOSED TO BE THAT COLOUR!"
