Ummm, a lasting one? Like, so you'll never be able to go into battle again
Since broadswords are basically built for hacking arms and legs off
You can't really thrust with them, they're like axes in sword form.
I mean, nerve damage works, but I don't think that lasts FOREVER, so
Yeah, lost limbs could work very well
I imagine there could be some nasty injuries from jousting too, especially if you fell under a horse
It'd be an easy way to get a mangled foot at least.
That could cause total paralysis, yes
>_> Or that, but I'd like my character here alive
But I know even short-lasting horse-related injuries are horrible.
My worst horse-related injury ever was a horribly bruised finger, but then again I've never ridden into battle
I'm definitely thinking a cut off leg or paralysis
But I might also go with blindness
which would then mean he'd somehow need his face damaged, so I'm not sure about that
Broken limbs not properly set.
Oh, that's a good one too.
This guy is going to be nobility, so he's going to have had a lot of good medical attention, but that doesn't mean much in a field hospital
nerve damage definitely can last forever
crushing injuries can heal, like a battleaxe or smth, but if the nerve's severed it's toast
not always! you can reconnect nerves. but not, you know, well back then.
yeah not before recent times
Yeah, um, this world I've got here doesn't have the technology to reconnect nerves, I think
Nerve damage is possible then!
I actually have powerpoints open about this
because I'm cramming for 300-level neuroscience
Oh really? That's what you're studying?
I've always wanted to learn more about OT - most of the kids I work with really like it
but yeah I just saw this and was like omg something I'm good at
what do you want the injury to say about him?
Weeeeell the idea is that he was once a warrior, but now he's stuck... not being able to fight
I also want there to be a certain amount of helplessness in his life, as in he needs help with some everyday tasks that used to be no-brainers for him
I've recently been learning about the horrible injury of Henry V when he was 16, but that injury never stopped him going to war or anythin
I guess that WOULD make battle pretty hard, and certainly make lots of every day tasks much more difficult
But that's an injury you can bounce back from, since you can still engage in armed combat one-handed
That's why I was thinking of maybe ruining his legs
In a way that would make it impossible to even grip a horse in battle
And I was also thinking maybe blindness
though there was in fact a European king who was blind and fought battles anyway
