[Event] took a deep breath as he looked over his rifle, cleaning it to make sure it'd fire perfectly when the time came.
offered him a pastry as she was handing out some baked goods for the people at the camp. " Here."
raised his brow as he looked at her.
smiles warmly to him as she offered it to him again. " It's made fresh from the oven." She thought it was a nice treat for the soldiers seeing how stressed they looked.
hesitantly took it and nodded before taking a small bite from it.
nods, " Don't worry about food poisoning or anything. They were made at the field hospital nearby."
made a face at that. "As long as I don't get blood poisoning I don't care." They were good after all.
gave a hearty laugh as she nods, " You won't don't worry. I'm a doctor after all."

nodded and continued to eat it as he looked over his rifle.
glanced over interested by it, " What kind of model is it?" She wasn't familiar with guns herself.
laid it carefully on his lap. "One of the newer ones. It doesn't work well in muddy conditions though, so I've been thinking of trading it in for an older model."
leaned ever so slightly to have a better look but kept her distance from him. " The weather here has been typically dry with periods of heavy rain. The midel itself should be okay if its firing rate is better-
than the older version."
nodded. "That it is. But it's hard to keep dry in the trenches some times. I just don't want it to backfire."
examined the gun from her spot. " Have you tried keeping it dry in a plastic bag?"
nods. "I've tried, but those are rare around here. I'd rather keep my food and supplies dry if it came to it."
blinks before pulling a few out of her pocjet and handing it to him. " Here. Its not much but I hope it helps."
raises his brow. "Won't you need these to keep your supplies clean and dry?"
shook her head as she offered it to him again. " We have an extra supply of them at the field hospital."
nodded and quickly took them and put them in his pocket. He didn't want others to know he had them in case someone tried to steal them.
doubted anyone really would but plastic bags were scarce.

smiles and nods before straightening her jacket. " You're welcome."

checked the time as she straightened up a bit after. " I have to head back to work soon so it was nice talking to you."
nodded a little. "Take care." He licked his fingers once he was done the pastry.
took an odd liking to him seeing he looked different and acted differently than the others from her time being here.

heard more shouts as she heard that the enemy was closing in and had to start evacuate the injured out to the main camp further away.
cursed as he had to reload quickly more and more. He wasn't prepared for this.
stayed behind to ensure all the injured were out as she helped others evacuate as well.
did his best to shot back at all he could. He hated that he hadn't got to his pack in time to get bullets.
saw as she rushed over to get help with the transportation of injured troops. She threw the pack to him as she passed by.
would have thanked her if they weren't in danger. He quickly went through it and pulled out the bullets, quickly firing at the enemies again.
grew more nervous as there were some she really couldn't save and others that wouldn't likely make it by the time they reach the main camp.
felt his gun jam up and cursed, putting it in his back before packing up. They were advancing too quickly for him to keep up now. He put the pack on and started to help moving people.
huffs as she continued to stay behind to treat injuries as the sounds of gunfire grew louder. She prayed everyone would make it out in time.
went to get her after the area was clear of people. "We need to move back."
could barely hear him over the sound of gunshots and bombs. She was nimble but she could already see the approaching enemy in sight.
pulled her by the arm towards where the others were running.
gasped as she immediately looked to him. " I can't leave them behind!" She yelled to him over the deafening sounds. She froze when a bomb hit not too far away from their spot.
used himself to protect her from debris. "I can help you get this one out, but the others are gone. Without you, more men will die."
cringed slightly as she steady herself and nodded. She went to moved the last of the men nearby to the secured escape before being forced to leave as well.

seemed quite surprised how nice he was to her. Most people would just ignore her. She started treat the injured immediately.

took care of the worst cases as she noticed most medics were unavailable or not even present. She went to check on him once other medics and nurses arrived.

tapped on his shoulder, " Do you mind if I gave you a physical examination as well? The adrenaline should have died down by now."
nods faintly. "I guess..." He was still a bit worked up from the events though.
put on her stethoscope as she checked his pulse and breathing first before examining any injuries.
cooperated fully, besides flinching at the coldness of the stethoscope at first.
smiles as she gave a few nods, seeing that most of him seemed fine. She checked for any fractures and cuts, asking him if he felt pain anywhere. " You seem to just have a few minor scratches. That's all."
nodded at that. He didn't feel any injuries anywhere, but being checked was always good. "Are you okay?"
tended to the scratches gently before looking at herself and smiling back to him after shaking her head. " Ja. I have to thank you for that. If I stayed any longer I wouldn't have been okay." She joked lightly.
nods a little as he started taking apart his rifle to unclog it. "Medics is the one thing everyone needs. But you're also the most vulnerable."
rubbed her neck sheepishly once she was done. " I guess...especially since I'm a woman."
shrugs as he got deeper down into the barrel, making sure the safety was on. "I was more so saying the fact you have no real weapon. Even a man in a medic position is just as vulnerable."
shakes her head, " We're usually trained to fight as well. I just...kind of skipped out on that part because I don't like it." She watched him as she started to clean up.
nods a bit as he put his gun back together again, thinking he fixed it. "You should always be around a soldier then.
blinks, " They never assigned one to me actually." She stopped him for a moment as she cleaned off one part he missed.
frowns a little. "That's an important fact. I'd bring it up with the captain if I were you."
laughs nervously, " They'll probably find it a waste of man power. I can fare well on my own. Its just today that I happen to be in the area."
shrugs. "I'll help then. Like I said, we need a medic."
tilts her head. " Are you sure? I move around a lot to tend to the injured..."
nods. "I like getting a feel for the surroundings. I feel if I'm in one spot too long I can become a target."
frowns, " I can't really take you with me though since you'll be a target either way..." She didn't want to admit she helped both sides.
nods a little. "I'd rather be a target around you then around no one."
frowns more as she sighed. " I still don't think your superior would allow it." Frankly the entire army didn't know she was working there....
didn't know either. "That's fine. As long as I kill he'll be happy."
nods, " I guess. I'll see you later then after what your superior has to say." Shefigured she would stay for a meal before leaving.

heading to the enemy hospital the next day. She ensured all the patients were okay before headung to the canteen.

looked at him weirdly. " I haven't even finished eating yet and its still a dangerous time to travel..."

nods and took her time eating and admiring the moon.

knew it was going to be a dangerous trip. She was small so slipping through thick brush was easy. She wondered if bringing him to the enemy base was a good idea and pondered about losing him along the way.
still didn't expect where she was going, but he was still up for it.
started to head to an allied post where she knew had some injured soldiers and decided leave him there later. She made sure the coast was clear before starting the trip there.

knew a safe route there as she was alert but knew her way without raising suspicion. She knew a resting point where they could stay at for the next day seeing it was only safest to travel at night.

continued on for a while but stopped when she saw a light from far away and pulled him down to the ground immediately. It was an enemy jeep on patrol and it was headed their way.

nods faintly. "Ja, I have extras. Is it really necessary though?"
nods, " They're a bit strict about people going through, especially other soldiers. Even we won't be seeing them, its good to be on the safe side."
sighs. "Fine." He didn't like the thought of sneaking around though.
knew so but took the long way but safe way into the small village where no one would see them enter. She unlocked the backdoor to a small but innocent place with a key and had him enter first before her.
walked in slowly, taking in the surroundings to make sure it wasn't a set up.
closed and locked the door as she turned on the lights. It was just a small place. There was a bed and a desk and a small bathroom connected to it. A small stove was present too. " Um...you can have the bed."
nods a bit as he looked around. "I guess you don't have any company."
shook her head as she went to one of the floor boards pulling up some things hidden underneath like an extra blanket and pillow. " I always travel alone."
put his pack down beside the bed. "When do we leave for the next line?"
glanced at the time as it was starting to get to dawn. " Tomorrow night. Daytime is the most dangerous to travel as people get suspicious easily."
nods and took his jacket and boots off. "So I guess we stay here until then?"
nods as she set up her small sleeping area on the ground, slightly closer to the stove since it was also a heater. " Ja. If you need anything, just ask." She took off her own_

made sure his pack was close before laying down in the bed, rubbing his eyes as he was a bit tired.
turned the lights off not long after and to avoid attracting attention to the place. She settled down and rested quietly after washing up in the small bathroom.

exhausted but she only spent small periods of time resting while being alert for the most part in case of anything. She was still nervous about earlier with the enemies in the vicinity.
thought it was intense, but was glad they got out alright.
sat up a few times, keeping quiet as the images ran through her mind. She had been involved in helping and saving lives for so long that it was hard to sleep.
found it rather easy to sleep when he was dead tired.
kept the room warm in the meantime and made a bit of tea with some herbs she collected during her free time in the past. She kept her blanket around herself, falling into a light sleep late in the morning.
woke up around mid day, feeling energised and ready to go on a mission.
sat quietly against the wall, clearly still tired and asleep from treating so many people and all the things happening. The tea was kept warm by the small gas stove since she thought he might have wanted some.
didn't know if he was allowed to take it or not so he just washed his face quietly.
woke up from the sound of movement and went to clean up right away as she served the tea and left it on the desk before getting some food for him that she brought.
took the tea once he knew it was his. "How'd you sleep?"
rubbed her eyes as she gave a sheepish smile. " I'm okay." She knew it was pretty evident with the dark circles under her eyes that she couldn't get much from try to get over her reoccurring nightmares.
knew it must be hard for a medic to get good sleep because of their situations.
went to go wash up after to try to seem more awake. She blinked when she heard a knock from the front door to the small home.
glanced to the door before quietly picking up his rifle and aiming it at the door.
gasped and motioned for him to put it away as she opened the door slightly so the person at the door. It was just the old lady of the couple that lived nearby.
slowly put it down and out of view.
chatted with the lady, using her own mother tongue to converse. She thanked the lady who seemed to tease her at the sight of him when she caught a glance. She _
lied that he was a boyfriend to avoid any suspicion from the old woman. It was stupid but it worked as she ended up receiving a basket of food from the lady prior to her leaving.

groaned as she dragged herself out of bed. " Just do it before you get killed." She knew the lady meant well for her but not for him. As luck would have it, she was the one getting drugged.
made everything look fine and normal, putting his jacket with patches near the bottom of his bag. "Are you okay?"
held her head as growls, " The cooked food was drugged." She stated to her own embarrassment. " I'm sorry..." She cringed as she chewed on some caffeine pills to deal with the sedatives in the food she ate.
glared at the food, picking out the fruit before pushing the basket towards the stove for it to be burned.
heard a knock on the door again and started heading towards it, fully aware of the possible dangers but stayed as alert as she could. She was greeted with a gun pointed at her this time but stayed calm.

obviously terrified but stood her ground and spoke to the men at the door. They were soldiers patrolling nearby that had caught word of an enemy spy in the area.

seemed quite thankful for that but kept a hand on his sleeve out of worry as the soldiers asked a few more questions after to ensure that he was telling the truth.

seemed relieved as they completed their questioning and left soon after. She felt a little betrayed by the people she had put her trust in and the fact she rented a place here because it was supposedly safe.
sighs. "You might want to find a new place now. They seem suspicious of you for some reason."
frowned as she unintentionally leaned a little against him for balance before immediately pushing herself away with a quiet apology and heading back to the bed. " They know I travel alone often."
nods a little at that. "They better get used to use being together then." He didn't think of how that sounded.
settled down at the make shift bed she had made earlier instead. " Sorry..." She apologized again. " I need to sleep the sedative off so we'll be travelling a little later than I wanted us to."
nods as he put his rifle under the bed for quick access. "I'll keep an eye out then."
rested and fell asleep not long after as she left him in charge. She was glad to sleep but she was unsure about the sudden turn in events.

waited for the soundsto settle before sneaking into the area once it was deemed safe. She kept her plain jacket on as she treated the enemy knowing she would be dead if caught.
quietly walked around, still on guard for any movement. He wanted to kill all the enemies.
pulled aside those who were most injured and bandaged them up first. Most of them were dead but she saved whoever she could.
noticed the movement and aimed his gun as he slowly walked towards her.
frowns as she could only save one or two. The others were a lost cause and she tried to hide their insignia of the enemy army.
still wasn't able to tell who it was, but fired a warning shot near them.
flinched as her ears were ringing from how close the shot was. She made sure the survivors were well hidden before fleeing in another direction to draw the attacker away.
growled and ran after her, still not sure who she was.
just knew she was being followed and used the thick brush to lose him as she took the long way around.

doing fine until he got hung up on some branches because of his pack and gun, making him stop and untangle himself.
heard the sound as she hesitated before going back and using a small pocket knife she had to help him out.
got his gun free at least, but when he saw it was her he huffed. "So I was chasing you?"
made a faint sound and nodded briefly as she cut him free before putting the knife safely away. "...I was making sure we didn't have any casualties left behind." She half-lied really.
nods a little as he secured his bag so he'd not get caught again. "So you were helping the enemy."
knew she was going to regret this. " I won't be able to explain myself either way but I am a doctor. Saving lives is my priority. You can kill me now if you think that I am a spy." She looked at him in the eye.
shakes his head as he started walking. "We need medics."
blinks at that, " So you're not going to jail me?" She assumed the worst.
shakes his head. "As much as I want to protect my country, I have nothing personal against these soldiers. Everyone deserves a second chance."
followed to him after. " Then will it be okay if I went to the enemy camp without you?"
twitched at that but sighed. "Fine. I'll go back to camp tomorrow."
smiles, a little thankful for that since he would be out of danger. She just hoped he wouldn't be sent on some recon mission to go with her or something.

frowns, " Its going to be really difficult to get back since there were so many enemy soldiers between here and the camp."
nods a little. "I'll be fine on my own. I know how to camouflage in the environment."
nods as she felt guilty for this. " Are you hurt any where?" She asked quietly after.
shakes his head. He had been lucky so far.
gave a quiet sigh of relief, " That's good then. I still apologize for having you travel all the way here." She stated after.

nods and went off to deal with other things. She felt like that group from earlier wasn't going to be the end of it seeing some did escape.

ducked as fast as she could, already hearing the sounds of a major fight breaking out. They were not outnumbered this time but some of the enemy soldiers managed to sneak past the defenses.
got the one who was behind Dorthe and quickly reloaded to get for the next one.
seemed thankful for that as she moved closer to him since it would lessen her chances of being an easy target. " If things are like this, we might have a lot of injured on our side." She frowned .
nodded as he kept her behind him, keeping his rifle up. "We don't have much of a chance now that they're in..."
shook her head, " At least we should save whoever we can until reinforcements arrive. The defenses to this point are suppose to be good."
nods. "Lead the way, I'll keep by you."
went to the nearest casualties that seemed the worst on their side. She wanted to treat the ones on the enemy side as well but that would jeopardize her own safety.
would bring her to them once there was no more gunfire. For now he kept by here, shooting any of the enemies he could. He did get a few headshots at least.
felt her stomach churn as she saw a few of them. She focused on working and pushed on until the attack was fended off. She hoped the surviving enemy soldiers would be made POWs instead of killed.
listened to whoever was in charge, and was about to shoot when the order was given to collect them as prisoners. He lowered his rifle, taking in a deep breath as he let the adrenaline rush die.

went to check on the soldiers that were in combat after and was glad most of them were okay. She eventually found him after and gave a sigh of relief. " Trouble seems to be where ever I am these days."
shrugs as he finished cleaning the barrel. "That's what seems to happen with medics."
sat down next to him as she handed him a canteen she was given from the supplies and had filled with some tea. " Here. It's the least I can do to thank you."
nodded a small thanks and took a sip, missing the comfort of proper tea these days.
smiled and stayed quiet as she held her hand on her side. She had sort of patched herself up a little as she was grazed by a bullet from earlier. " I can see what I can do to have you travel safely back to the_
_ main camp later." She was an unknown medic but she could still try seeing how much he helped her.
nods at that as he passed the canteen back to her. "Dank u. It would be best I think." He glanced to her side, raising his brow at it.
kept pressure there as she tried to not pay attention to it to ignore the pain. " It's a little scratch. I'm guessing you know by now that I am a bit careless." She smiles brightly despite how grim it seemed.
nods at that. "Did you get another medic to look at it at least?"
shook her head, " Nej since everyone's got their own hands full but it's okay. I'm a medic too remember?" She was actually just afraid of other men touching her since there weren't any female medics or nurses.
nods and got up. "You should get it checked. If it gets infected at all you'll not be able to work, and put more of a burden on the medics around."
shook her head as she stayed in her spot, " I appreciate your concern but I made precautions."
sighs. "Let me see it then."
blinks at the before hesitantly pulling her hand away from her injury slowly. It was pretty evident that it was bad and a bit of blood was starting to seep through. " I'll be okay." She insisted.
took his pack off and placed his gun on it before crouching beside her. "Give me your supplies."
did as told as she handed him her medical kit. " Here." She didn't think it was that bad.
carefully took the bandage off and got some disinfectant to clean the wound deeply.
bit her lip as she was reluctant for a male to treat her but also because it hurt a lot. She endured it, not showing any sign of weakness.
made sure it wouldn't get infected before covering it with a bandage larger than before, so it would keep out any debris and dirt. "There."
blinks and thanked him after, " Tak." It felt a little better at the very least.
nods as he went to clean his hands off.
shifted slightly as she stayed in her spot, hoping there wasn't anymore extra stuff going to happen anytime soon. " Do you mind if I ask a favour of you?"
shakes his head as he dried his hands off. "I'll see. What is it?"
sighed, " Do you mind if I stay with you for a while until I've healed up? From the looks of it, its too dangerous for me to travel anywhere."
nods. "Sure. As long as we're safe here..."
smiles, " I overheard the higher ups talking about reinforcements from the main camp coming to be stationed here because its an important strategic point."
sighed thankfully. "Good. I'm running low on bullets as it is."
scratched her own check awkwardly as she nodded. " The only problem is that they're running out of space for the new troops coming in and I gave up my supposed bed to an injured soldier."
shrugs. "I'm sure we could find something. I have a spare blanket, so we just need a cot."
perked up a bit at that hospitality. " I can try to go find one now since we have time." She jumped to her feet, forgetting her own wound as she yelped. " Sorry! I got too excited."
rolled his eyes as he got up, picking up his rifle and pack.
kept a hand on her side to ensure that there was enough pressure on her wound as she kept cheerful. She felt her stomach growling after, " I think we should eat first..."
nods as he headed for the food tent. "I wonder if they'll have anything decent..."
looks up to him, " It's okay. Usually the stuff we had in the medical tent is better."
sighs. "Whatever. I just need food..."
led the way to the food area where the medics had been cooking. There was more than enough hot and fresh food seeing medics usually never ate much since they were always busy.
didn't mind helping himself to some food then. He was actually starving.
smiles, " Fill up. They usually end up giving the extras to the other soldiers if they're still hungry."
nodded and took a generous amount before finding a place to sit down.
sat at the bench nearby after she had gotten her own plate of food.
quietly ate, glad to be eating again. He missed his home food though.
glanced over to him once in a while. " After all the things that's happened, I still haven't gotten your name yet." She smiled in a dorky manner.
finished his mouthful before licking his lips a bit. "Nikolaas."
smiles more as she thought that had a nice ring to it. " I'm Dorthe." She ate quietly after, appreciating the silence since it was the only thing that made her not think of the horrors of war.
liked silence because it meant they were safe.

kind of happy she was under the protection of someone even though it wasn't exactly official. She had few bad run ins with some dangerous situations in the past.
would make sure to protect her. He didn't see any kind of downside for assisting a medic.
would ensure he was safe and in an advantageous position whenever possible. She did try to to make sure he was in tip top shape too with good food and rest.
thought that too if he was ever injured she'd be easily available.
thought it was a nice platonic relationship between them then. She had never thought about having another person around seeing that she helped both sides.
wouldn't be able to go with her to the enemies territory...
didn't think that was even possible for her anymore. It had gotten far too dangerous and she had heard of landmines placed along certain paths she took often.
would be shot dead the moment he set foot on their territory. It's what he got for having the patches he did.
never really liked the cost of war...
didn't either. He finished his food soon after and sighed. "So how long am I to watch over you? I figure you'll want to try and get to the enemy side."
shook her head, " I doubt I will be able to get there any time soon. For now, just until my wound heals I guess."
nods as he stretched a bit. "Sounds good. Should we try and find a resting place now?"
looks over to him, " I'm guessing you don't have a place either then?"
shakes his head. "Not here. But I can sleep anywhere."
blinks, " Isn't that bad for your body?"
shrugs and sighs. "I've gotten used to not having a comfortable bed."
frowns, " Let me ask the higher ups then. I don't want the person who's incharge of protecting me while I work in the field to have a bad back."
sighed a bit. "You should have a bed too. Medics need rest and sleep so they can perform at their best."
shrugs, " I'll be fine. It's hard for me to sleep either way because its so noisy at night." She stated before going to speak to one of the higher ups.
followed her, having his pack loosely on his back. He was tired of constantly taking it on and off.
had a curt chat before returning to him and picked up the pack for him instead. " Let me hold it for you."
shakes his head as he took it back. "It's fine. I've trained with this. I just don't want to tie it all up again."
blinks and nods as she started to head to the place where she was told had an extra bed.
followed her closely, not as much on alert now that he's ate and how quiet it seeme.
found the small sleeping area they were designated too. It consisted of a moderately sized cot which made her sigh. " Um...I guess you can take it then."
shrugs. "I've slept on worse and smaller beds with men from my platoon. This is fine."
nods slowly, " I'll go find another bed for myself then." She doubted there was anything free to sleep on but left him be so he could have his time off away from her.
shakes his head. "It's best if we're together. If there's an attack in the night, I won't be able to find you in the chaos."
blinks, " I'll sleep on the ground then since I'm used to it by now." It was quite the secluded spot after all oddly enough.
sighs. "The bed is big enough for both of us. It's a luxury in this area."
looked to him, a little nervous at that idea. " Are you sure?"
nods. "We'll need the best rest we can get. Take the chance while you can."
nods slowly, " I guess. I haven't really slept in a bed for a while."
put his pack down and took off his boots, getting ready for bed like he had the previous night, also taking off his jacket and putting it away.
went to go wash up in the bathroom and came back a little later. Since the bed was against the wall, she figured it would be better to sleep on that side opposed to falling off the bed.
washed his face once she was done before sighing quietly. His muscles were a bit sore from all the moving and constantly alertness. It was hard for him to relax. He got back to the bed and just mae himself
comfortable.
kept to her side of the bed after shedding off her jacket and boots. She had changed into some lighter clothing since she felt a bit too warm.
stayed in his, wanting to keep the rest of his clothes clean for crawling through the forest and that.

blinked as she looked over to him. " Tak. You're really nice to me...I really appreciate that." She smiled warmly to him in thanks.
shrugs. "I just bring extras of important things. And if you get sick, what good am I?"
rubbed her cheek out of embarrassment to stop herself from blushing. " I guess."
yawned quietly as he got comfortable, bringing the blanket up close to his neck to keep warm.
closed her eyes, trying to relax but she could hear the shelling from the frontlines even though it was so far away.
didn't seem to have a problem with sleeping.
had trouble sleeping almost every night and shifted a lot while trying to sleep.
mumbled quietly to try and calm her down.
tried to calm down but she was getting restless from the sounds. There was the injured wailing from the medical tent and the sound of gunfire every now and then.
sighed quietly. "Pull the blanket over your head... it'll help mute the sound."
made a faint sound, " It doesn't help..." She did it anyway, still restless after.
turned a bit and put a hand over one of her ears. "How's that?"
nods as she tried to sleep. " It's a little better." The sounds were muffled a bit.
nods and started to fall asleep himself, keeping his hand lightly on her ear.
shifted a bit closer to him to keep her ear covered. She started to settle down a bit.
fell asleep quickly after, glad to get some sleep.
slowly fell asleep as she stayed close to him just for protection.
