Zevran has no idea why he should feel sentimental about a man he's never met. The man knocked up his mother and died/left her, he isn't sure, but the only thing he's sure about is that he was never there.
When he was a kid? Sure, he probably wondered a lot. He's not completely sheltered; he could see there were children and their parents wandering together at the market, the park, etc.
He probably daydreamed about it a lot -- among his fantasies of rejoining the Dalish, there would be some of a decent home life. Yearning turned into bitterness, which later turned into apathy.
Just another emotional scar to add to the rest. :')
SINCE I'M APPING SARENE TO PORTES, LET'S TALK ABOUT SARENE AND DADKING.
Dadking was the best dad and king ever, and she loves him bunches.
He is the best dad any little girl could ever hope to have. When the rest of the world told Sarene no because of her lovely face and her vagina, dadking said "do it".
Dadking knows that he has a headstrong, independent and intelligent daughter. In a misogynistic society, this is undesirable, but dadking adored it and he has no idea why nobody wants to marry his daughter.
Sarene... loves him and adores him and confides in him, but she's also incredibly intimidated by the pedestal her dad put her on.
Like, he refuses to believe that his daughter is anything less than amazing and the only reason she's not married is because she values her independence.
Which she does! But... she also wants to be married! And it's really hard to find a man in a misogynistic setting that wouldn't be put off by her, but her dad would never acknowledge that and it just
DOUBLES HER SECURITY augh daddy pls
