of the field, on the Laurasian side of the battle - had totally shifted his entire sense of being. He found himself not being able to trust anyone or anything any more, the dread of being lied to the whole
time, creeping into every pore of his skin like icy water, as though he had just dived headfirst into the sea, mid-December. It was unmanning, creating an anxiety within him that he had seen so many times
before on other men's faces during war, but never thought he'd experience himself. He'd thought wrong. He didn't speak to anyone, his face contorted into the permanent grimace of a scowl as he waited. Waited
for the moment that they were told to charge, wished for it to come soon, so he could unleash some of the anger inside of him that was hot and burning, contrasting harshly to the icy feel of dread and anxiety,
burning him up from the inside and making him want to scream out in frustration. So there he was, waiting. Just waiting. And maybe, if he was lucky, God would show mercy on him and kill him quick, so all of
this hurt and anger would end.
finally was able to sneak back onto Godwana soil, happy to be back on home soil. He searched around the trenches, looking for that certain someone who he'd been dying to get back to. It was a bit distracting
when he could only think of the German while on duty, and it got dangerous with being what he was... but now he was back, and on the hunt. He finally recognised the back of the others head and ran over quietly,
cover his eyes from behind, just as he had always done before. "Guess who~~~"
saw red at the sound of the other's voice, and spun around, grabbing at the knife in his belt and pinning the Dane up against the wall of the trench in under a second, knife pressed threateningly against his
's smile dropped instantly and his body froze when he was pressed against the trench. "Wha-" He shut himself up and tensed when he felt the blade against his neck, glancing down from it to the German, his brows
furrowing in confusion. This was Ludwig, right...?
couldn't say anything. The sound of his blood pounding in his ears almost deafening him as he glared at the other, hatred strong and burning in his eyes, forcing himself not to show the hurt.
could tell something had obviously snapped. He slowly brought a hand up to place lightly on the others, hoping to be able to pull the knife away from his throat. "W-what's...?" He was beyond lost.
snarled at the other. "Don't you even fucking try and play dumb here, Dane. You know what's going on here."
felt the colour in his face fade as he put his hand on his own chest. "Ludwig... what's the meanin' of this...?" He honestly had no idea and now he was worrying.
laughed bitterly, the noise sounding dark and heartless to even his own ears. "What's the meaning of this? I told you not to fucking play dumb. What? You didn't think I'd find out sooner or later? Is that what
started to sweat from how serious the other was. He had never seen this side of him and it made him secretly terrified. 'I'm not playin' dumb... Ludwig, what's wrong? What's been found out?"
pressed the knife closer to the pale skin of the Dane's throat, though still not hard enough to draw blood. "Nothing's wrong. I just don't like it when people think they can play me for dumb, you Laurasian
piece of shit!" The last part was almost spat out, as though the name was a bad taste that he wanted to get rid of immediately after.
felt his breath leave his body that moment, and it took a while for things to connect. "Wh-... Ludwig, let me explain. There is a reason behind what I've done..." He tried again to push the others hand away
didn't move his hand one inch. "You trying to explain yourself now? Going to tell me another lie, about how you're not really a Laurasian soldier? That you're some spy, working for Gondwana with only your
assigned officer knowing your mission?"
gulped quietly, pushing himself more into the trench so he wasn't as intimitated by the blade, which he was. He was starting to have trouble breathing from the siutaition. "I've never lied to ye, Ludwig. Ye
need to understand! I had to do this..."
glared at the other. "You had to do this? You had to come over here and pretend to be my friend so you'd fit in? I bet that's why you didn't fucking get put on the assignment! I bet your name's not even
moved forward slightly, wincing before going back to his place. "Nej! I was doin' my job for Godwana! I became yer frien truthfully, and it's meant more to me than anythin' else here.." There was obvious hurt
in the others eyes, as he didn't know how to explain himself.
huffs out a laugh. "Stop lying to me. I don't like it when people lie to me!"
reached out to put his hand on the others shoulder. "Ludwig, I'd never lie to yeu! I wouldn't want to risk losin' a friend like ye, especially now!"
shrugged the hand off. "How the fuck can I trust you when I just saw you over on the other side of the fucking battle field earlier, talking with some bitch like nothing was wrong?!"
frowned deeply, putting his hands against the trench. "We... we have an agreement. But I'm here now... for ye."
furrowed his brow. "What kind of agreement? And what do you mean you're here for me? You should be here for Gondwana, the side that you're supposedly fighting for!"
huffed a bit. "I am fightin' for Godwana. It's my home. And it's an agreement to keep ye safe! And because of ye I'm more determined to do my duty!"
thrown off slightly by that, but didn't slack the knife one bit, though he could feel the anger being pushed aside by the hurt he really did feel. "What do you mean?" he hissed, narrowing his eyes?
took a quiet deep breath. "I'm a spy, for Godwana... I was asked just after we met. If I had known we were gonna get this close of a friendship, I'd not have done it... ye're motivation for me to keep doin' it.
couldn't believe what he was hearing, after spending most of the day hurting because he had felt that everything had been a lie, though deep down there was a part of him that wanted to... "Damnit, Søren. I
thought--" the knife dropped slightly in his hand, as though he no longer had the will to press it against the other's throat. "Mein Gott, I though I loved you..:" he said, his voice suddenly weak, wracked by
a dry sob, which he somehow managed to turn into a sharp intake of breath, before he clenched the knife again, pressing it back against the Dane's neck. "But now, Søren... now--" the knife pressed harder,
beginning to draw blood as he felt tears swell in his eyes, but he blinked them away. "Now I'm not even sure what I think."
stared back at the other, utter shcok and disbelief in his features. He had no idea that the other had felt that strongly for him, but now that he thought about it he could see the signs. Especially when the
German stayed by his side during the whole time he was in recovery, and all the times they had shared body heat during the night. His only response was looking the other in the eyes, trying to look as
apologetic as he could, not knowing how to improve the situation. He did twitch when the blade was pressed harder into his neck. "L-Ludwig, stand down..."
's mouth pulled to a thin line. "And why the fuck should I?" he asked, the knife pressing a tad bit further into the other's skin.
started to breath quicker, actually fearing for his life now. "B-because. Well..." He bit his lip, looking to the side. "... I thought I loved ye too..."
shocked enough by the statement to remove the the knife from the other's throat, watching as blood started to drip from the gash as he felt guilt pool in his gut. Out of everything he was expecting to hear,
that hadn't been one of them.
smiled faintly, slowly putting his hand on the others shoulder again. "See...? Everythin' has a reason. Now let's... let's just rest, ja?" He was shaking a bit, his nerves having been shot from the situation.
shook his head, pushing the Dane's hand from his shoulder and taking a step back, feeling himself shake, the sudden drastic change of emotions a shock to him. "I'm sorry Søren.... I can't-- I can't talk to you
, not right now anyway." He daren't say more, too scared that his voice would crack and betray him, so with that he turned and left, forcing himself to keep walking and not look back.
frowned at that and walked after him. "Ludwig, come on, ye just need to understand."
stopped and turned back, his face stern again. "No, Søren. I don't. I- I understand ok. But it's too late. I can't trust you anymore, and if I can't trust you out here, I'm as good as did. I'm better off alone"
frowned more when he heard that. "Ludwig, please..." He stepped close to him and tried to smile. "W-we're friends, ja...?" He didn't want to accept what the other was saying.
faltered slightly, looking up at the other, not being able to keep the hurt off his face any longer. "... I honestly don't know anymore"
continued to try and smile, getting even closer. "W-we're friends... that's why we spent those nights together. And why ye stayed by my side when I was recoverin'..."
squared his jaw, not wanting to get any closer, not whilst he was this hurt, it was like he was taunting him in a way, and Ludwig was scared he'd hurt the other if he kept pressing. "That was before, Søren"
shakes his head. "Nej, ye still feel it. I can tell. I can see it in yer eyes." He smiled widely at him. "We're friends." He put his hand firmly on the others shoulder, scared of losing him.
tried to shrug the Dane off again, taking a step back. "Maybe so, but I still can't trust you." he was starting to get annoyed at the other now. Why couldn't he take a hit, seriously?
didn't want to loose him as a friend. He had pretty much become dependent on the other, and the thought of not being able to be near him drove him insane. "Ye can trust me... I say ye can, so ye can. Simple."
shoved the Dane's arm off. "No. It's not that simple. I still don't know whether you really are fighting for Gondwana or not. You could still be lying to me! ... I just need some time. Alone. To think..."
shakes his head. "Nej, ye don't. I'm true for Godwana... my family's on this side... trust me. Ye do, I can tell." He was smiling more, trying to believe his lie. He stepped closer to the other to rest his head
shoved the other off again, pushing him to the ground. "Leave me alone, Søren. You're not helping your cause" he said, before turning and walking away as dast as he could, leaving his once-friend on the ground.
winced when he fell to the ground, staring up at the other in shock. He watched him leave, being quiet and silent the rest of the time. He shook faintly as he started to scratch at the cut on his neck, not
knowing how to react to the situation.
