Technically I'll only be here for less than two days since it's a business trip
With one day gone for the workshop and two evenings free
I was going to capitalize on the time. I had it all planned out! I was going to get authentic nasi lemak on the first evening and then nasi goreng on the second.
even thought of asking the reception desk for the best place to have either dish nearby
But I got embarrassed at the last second and decided to just check the food court at the nearby mall.
so I go to the mall, make my way to the basement
Spend thirty minutes wandering around the grocery and another thirty minutes in the petshop beside it
And then find myself at McDonald's eating a mcrib.
i am thoroughly disgusted with myself.
I hate to say it, but you really should feel ashamed of yourself. How can you eat McD's when there's such amazing cuisine here?
The food floor was populated with crap like fast food chains, Japanese ramen restaurants and expensive western bistros.
and I was afraid to venture out to the arcade with the actual Malaysian-sounding eateries; they looked like they might not have English menus.
Point, though you could ask- oh, uh.
But seriously, coming here and not trying at least some of the local dishes is something I can hardly stand to see!
Maman, tell Arinori where you are and let him link where you can go tomorrow night!
Oh, great idea! I could also tell you what the dishes are supposed to mean if it helps.
:'D I would have tried to look for the hawker places, believe me, but I am alone and--I am not being racist, but the dark-skinned Indian-looking men scare me.
i'm staying at the sunway resort hotel at bandar sunway?
Nah, they intimidate me sometimes too since I'm not all that impressively built...hmm!
There's none around there that are famous for their food, but there should be a number of mamak stalls near Sunway College. But darn it, you're not at an especially prominent place. D:
Haha I could... Always get nasi lemak from the room service menu...
Good point! It'd cost you a bomb but you won't get lost at least.
Hey, I saved on the mcrib so I can afford to splurge tomorrow.
( to be fair, it was a delicious burger. We don't have it back home, which was why I got it to try. )
Ah! It only just got released, haven't tried it though.
I have a meal allowance of 50 usd per day. XD
Oh, I think I know the place described in that forum @ across the pyramid.
that's the place I was afraid to go to
A mamak store is essentially one where people open up various stalls and sell food, although it's normally geared towards Indian food!
:c I don't particularly like Indian food. I mean, I don't think the cuisine will agree with my stomach.
but I will keep my options open
i also have two days of buffet breakfast, so maybe they'll have local specialties available?
Aaah! Is that like the Makan Sutra in SG?
It is kind of strong tasting, yeah. That's why you should probably take Nasi Lemak instead.
I promise to get that tomorrow evening. XD
: < I want to go with youuuu.
XD can always come back here.
and actually have time to be a tourist...
o3o y'know, when my parents were there, they actually got by by speaking mandarin instead of english.
you could... try doing that? because a lot of people there can understand mandarin better than english, apparently!
i actually have no idea lol! but if they're indians they should at least be able to understand a bit of english right...
Yeah! It's okey, I've been getting by with English. Although later I'm going to try to look for a cd store because my parents want me to buy Chinese audio CDs, so then I will need to use my rusty Chinese.
second night in malaysia and I'm having nasi lemak at the hotel restaurant while my peers are off to the petronas towers and central market.
still kind of disgusted with my inefficient tourist tendencies.
