Buffy is one of my favorite shows, but Joss really did a lot of twisting the knife in the viewer in that one. And also, everything else he did. But you can see him honing the craft in Buffy
Yes. Lots of heart-wrenching moments. But I love how there is almost always two ways to "read" things in there. There is the obvious story that is entertaining in itself, and then there are the heavier themes
Watching Giles take a flaming baseball bat to Angelus was immensely satisfying, if short-lived, though. You want heart-wrenching, though, watch what Buffy has to do about it.
I love Joss but he really takes the SOMEONE MUST DIE thing too far for me. I'm pretty sure my heart strings can be tugged without him needing to pop surprise deaths out now and again
