anyone else who works hard?
Like... no one.... NO ONE... needs billions of dollars to live.
I can't imagine not being happy on hanging onto a million a year for myself, same for my closest family and friends, and dumping the rest into charities.
hell, I could have hundreds of thousands and not be able to do it lol
I really struggle trying to grasp the idea of that much money too. Like...when I look at certain jobs that are considered low-rung, entry-level, bottom of the bucket on most lists...and they say shit like
40-50k a year...I'm like ...OMG I'D BE RICH. I COULD HAVE ANYTHING I WANT. That's basically twice my current income. The idea that some people bring in just 100k a year baffles me.
or rather, I meant...EVEN the idea of just 100k a year baffles me.
well I mean I love fancy things and if I work for BILLIONS I'd want to still have my fancy things lol.... but a million is just a drop compared to BILLIONS
I get that the more money you make, the more expensive your life becomes and the more money it takes to maintain that lifestyle.. but I can't see a life requiring billions of dollars.. or even millions..
for me I guess I'd just want enough to maintain homes in a few cities because travel would be my main luxury. After that, I'd want to do something meaningful and good with that money
BUT at the same time.. I think my life goal would change.. it wouldn't be about me.. it would be about my family for the rest of forever never having to work etc
I guess it doesn't matter as I'll never be a billionaire lol
I just saw this graphic of the billionaires in the world and was just like.... BUT WHY
like... JK Rowling has earned enough to be a billionaire... but because of how much she's given to charities... she's not one. I think that's amazing.
kaz_nayar: Same. For me, my priorities will be putting down a legacy that also ensures my family is at least financially secure for a couple of generations. It stops being about money & more about pushing the
bounds of my possible achievements in one lifetime. Not saying I wouldn't give generously to charity, but my goals would shift from "survival" to "comfort" and eventually to "aspirational goals"
Maybe create a company or corporate entity that is both profitable, drives my personal values/principles and lasts several generations as a feat of human tenacity.
presumably if you're a billionaire... you already have that
Yeah I mean with a billion dollars, you could make a million people a millionaire. That's a lot of money.
If you suddenly come into a large amount of money then yes I could see you wanting to give as much as you want to charities and help as much people..but if you were born into that kind of money I feel like you
aren't as in tune with how the other 99% really lives..
so you would not lose sleep at night thinking about how much more you could help the world.
I don't think that's true. I was born into a wealthy (not BILLIONAIRE, but wealthy) life with republican, conservative, Catholic parents. My dad told me that my whole life I was supposed to want to be rich
more than anything else, that was the most important thing
no one ever put any kind of liberal thinking in my head... and now I'm the outcast of the family because I'm the complete opposite of everyone else in every aspect possible
Unless a billionaire heir or heiress lives in a cave, then they see the suffering in the world and they have a choice once they become adults on who they wanna be.
that's not true maybe in your case...also there are billionaires out there who have been pledging a whole lot of their money to charities..just because they are still filthy rich after doing it
doesn't mean they dont see suffering and still want to help..
