on the other hand, he's moved from his ABC app and YouTube to Play Music and Skype on the Nexus 7. This doesn't bode well. O_O Of course, my account has a password lock on it
until they learn how to read oTL
Yep, that'll be the next step oTL
Learning to read early specifically to hack daddy's account. DOOMED.
lets them search on Youtube too. No device is safe from Kiko now since he's learned how to put in passcodes
actually, would be easier, since the nexus uses a swipe pattern lock. once he memorizes it, GAME OVER. Mat just uses the thumbnails to decide which video to watch
Play Music seems to frustrate him, maybe, since the music has no video accompanying it. He likes the sounds, but would like it tons more with moving pictures. Also, seems to like lyric music videos now
Reminds me of when I had to set a password on the PS3 store because I belatedly realized that Johnny had been buying games from the store. Thankfully they were ones I would've played anyway, but STILL.
lol. a bit worried since Mat keeps opening purchase windows from Angry Birds, and it's my card on the Google Wallet in that account ^_^;;; Then again, he never seems to get past that screen
I remember my nephew at 3, struggling to type in "Moves like Jagger" to search on the YouTube app on my phone
thankfully his taste in music has improved
lol. Mat's still jamming to Sesame Street, so we initiate the search for him. However, since we made a playlist for him, he quickly goes there now
Oh, man. We specifically removed the credit card on my Google Waller specifically because Johnny would keep downloading games on his tablet. He would keep trying pay ones, but he can recognize "free" now.
And specifically goes for the games that say that.
End result of which was that his tablet had nearly fifty or so free games downloaded to it.
Ah, our kids and technology. How long before we subject them to 'In my days, we didn't have any etc. etc.'
my nephew made an in-app purchase of $20 in a shooting game; good thing it finally got reversed. He still got a light spanking, though.
now he's so much more careful
the android kid mode is a great help since it filters all the videos for easy access
In-app purchases are the bane of tech-enabled parenting. Harder to leave unsupervised. Wasn't there that thousand dollar smurf app thing? Am interested in this android kid mode.
they ought to put parental options on apps as well aside from what the device / OS supports, especially where it is accessible to children and there are in-app purchases involved o_o
On the other hand, these bastards can make money that way, so there's no real incentive for them to do so.
In iOS, every purchase can be made to go through the password screen before going through. Not sure if that can be done on Android. Thing is, the passwords can be remembered for convenience - which is the prob
I'm kind of paranoid about these, so, say, my steam account doesn't remember my card number. But every time I buy something, I'm reminded of the convenience my paranoia is removing.
kid mode is an app that restricts kids from making purchases or using apps you dont want the kids using. we load the apps kiko can use onto kid mode.
then set his galaxy tab so that it is the first thing opened when it is unlocked
it automatically links with youtube as well and filters kid friendly videos
our phones have it pre installed; that's how we found out about it. iOS has restrictive access
kiko can only leave kid mode if he knows Mark's year of birth lol
funny thing is whenever Kiko does try to tap to buy something Kid Mode helpfully emails us to tell us that Kiko would like to buy this thing.
... this is a glorious thing and will now be installed on our devices.
we use a diff app called automateit that loads kid mode upon unlocking the tab so kiko has no way to get out of kid mode. it also has a loud piercing alarm when kiko tries to exit kid mode
I'd pretty much put his tablet on lockdown and since he borrows his mom's phone a lot set it up there too.
