So I have been trying to learn Maya, before I get too deeply invested. What is the best 3d program for SL? Maya, Blender, 3DSMax or something else? Any advice on choosing one or help is appreciated.

I don't know either. Blender is what I use, and from what I understand, its the easiest to export for SL, but otherwise I think it depends on which you like better.

I even know there are folks who use zbrush, which I'd love to use, but can't find tutorials for.

read that 3 time as "trying to learn Mayan". Everyone needs a hobby

Heh. I just want to get the most out of whichever program I use before I dive in feet first. I hadn't even considered Zbrush which adds option #4 to the list.

I know about Blender, and while it seems like it is the easiest for getting stuff into SL, it seems to be a bit clunky and having watched Faerycat with it, seems to have occasional random issues.

Maya looks good, but I will have to shell out a fair amount of money to get deep into the learning process as it has a steep curve. Tutorials and lessons for it, aren't cheap.

3DSMax and Zbrush, I have no clue about. I am still hopeful someone will read this, take pity on me and offer some insights about each option.

Faerycat: I got it, although only a few of my friends are designer/builders

Much appreciated GingoGumbo -- I may just have to pick one and dive in soon if nobody can help.
