if anyone is good with writing scholarly papers? I have a professor this semester that is marking me down for writing in a "passive voice" but he isn't telling me what I am doing wrong. I have never had anyone
tell me that I write in a passive voice.
Purdue's OWL is a great resource! I still use it. Purdue OWL: Active and Passive Voice
yeah, I use that too. My problem is that professors have marked me down for using "active" tense in the past, now he is marking me down for writing the way every professor has told me to phrase things. Ugg
Some professors are just jerks. The only think you can do is to write the way each one asks. But, he is right that passive voice is less desirable.

yeah, I think the problem is, is that I have written papers for Public Administration and now I am in a business program, but my last 2 professors would "correct me" when I used active verb tenses.

purdue owl for sure and schedule an appointment to meet with him or find out if you can turn them in early or review them with him early

I met with my prof and scheduled time to go over things and then they gave us the option to turn in final and midterms 2-3 weeks early for review and resubmission so it all worked out good
lemonhalf, I would meet with him, but it is an online course, and I don't even know what state he is in. I could go up to the U of M campus and have the writing center help, but I only have 2 papers for
this class and I only have 2 more weeks. Probably will have my son proof them for me, if I can get them done before the last minute.

not sure if they do that. He is the only professor in years that has a problem with my writing style. I guess I will just have to try and figure out what he wants. or get a B instead of an A.

In all of the business classes (120+ credit hours) I have had at Walden, active voice has always been the route to go.
laell, That is odd, the classes I have had have not been like that. I am going to try to use the active voice thing on my rough draft this weekend, Hopefully I can figure out what he wants.
