chart question: I have a chart that I am working and I am supposed to have 31 stitches. I ended up with 28 and I am not sure how. There are squares in the chart that say no stitch. can anyone to help?

well, looked it up, so I know I am supposed to skip the square in the chart. I know when I knit the chart I was careful and ended the section correctly, but still have 28 stitches, so I am gonna rip back
