can you guys explain why the windlight settings are all darker now? tyr brought it up but i am also looking at myself in nam's optimal skin and prim which is usually perfect lighting for no shadow or lines and
its several shades darker now than it has ever been
People updating straight from 4.4.2 to 4.6.1 will notice some lighting changes with ALM enabled because the materials code came with gamma correction.
is there any way to disable this via preferences?
No. It's known, intended, and an aspect of materials. If you're seeing differences between 4.5.1 and 4.6.1, then no idea what's up.
Well... you can disable it by disabling Advanced Lighting Model.
i came from a different viewer to this viewer. haven't been able to use firestorm for a while due to weird locking up issues.
If you went from a non-materials viewer to this one (a materials viewer), then that's what it is. The render code comes straight from LL.
no i came from a materials viewer.. just.. they had the ability to turn off gamma correction. which is why i asked :/
What I'm being told is that it can't be disabled on any viewer if ALM is on. We know Exodus had it disable-able prior to materials, but that it, too, is subject to the same code changes.
If you're aware of anyone who has found a way to get around it, you're more than welcome to file an improvement request on our JIRA and suggest we port their feature into Firestorm.
its possible its a different code. black dragon had gamma control stuff for a long time, and it could be switched on or off.. finding this out is a bit dismaying.. this has really wrecked my windlight :/
See the paragraph that starts, "Another change to the viewer is that it now include gamma correction...." as well as subsequent paragraphs, which may provide some tips for compensating for the change.
Regretfully, the code is Linden code, and they don't regard it as a bug.
ew that looks like crap, i guess im not updating
that the issue GropeNinja is seeing gets addressed: I'm having the same problem.
BTW, out of curiosity, Tyr: are you on a AMD Radeon HD 7420G graphics chipset from last year, too? Wondering if we're using the 'wrong' hardware...
AMD graphics chipsets that are on legacy drivers also have an issue with transparent flexiprims & ALM, which I documented in FIRE-13011. However, this issue is NOT present on LL's official viewer from Feb 15.
nathpev: i'm having the issue and i'm on an nvidia graphics card... its not hardware specific (at least that i can find)
i had to return to my other viewer because firestorm is still doing the lock up and black screen thing :/ only viewer i have this issue with...
