bets you can only see 3.5G of it in windows task manager
i dunno i deleted that qemu image a long time ago
lols. braine fail. I thought yu was Shyiya :S
well technically because of a weird bios its only 4095 MB not 4096MB (wtf did that last meg go?)
well at least you didn't confuse me for Margaret Thatcher on a cold day.....
why do we need to much ram
to gimp images that take up 2gb of ram so that you can forge government documents to get back into the country
well its got 12 layers and is a full 8.5" by 11" at 2400 DPI
i mean how else is this nice nigerian prince supposed to get into the US and give me a cool $100,000,000 ONE HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS USD
what the hell, $100,000,000
I DO! i owe some money to these guys in an alley............................................................................................
4G isn't much. Seriously. I have programs that often go above 3G on their own.
and farnsworth will sometimes shoot up to 1gb easily
yeah, high res print quality images with >1 layers *does* consume memory really fast, especially with undo-cache
/me frequently exceeds 20 layers
yea i've got gimp set to bring my system to a crawl with undo if need be
and every layer has 2 images, the image itself and the mask
accidentally opened 200 5MP images at once, once, took ages, but system survived the onslaught ( only just mind )
er, anyone whos doing real photo work uses layers.
you can't do good things without layers
this is why i've still got 2gb of swap lying around, just in case
same effect as multiple layers, just works really fast.
/me has had to on occasion make 4G ram + 10G swap available
that was compiling openoffice in a tmpfs
oh i know that adventure of yours
actually i keep meaning to increase the swap size to 12gb or so for future proofing, since i want to get hibernate working again
you can't do mask-painting without layers. and mask-painting is non-destructive
i have done layers, but not that advnaced
so i didn't find much use of them
i don't know what that mask is
i can do everything you can do with layers in paint
its hard to demonstrate, but basically, its painting where and where the layer is not
multiple copies of paint, then copy from one to another
if you mess up, you copy over from other paint
you can't.
the portion you messed up
yeah, and that will produce really shit quality
used paint before i had photoshop
ok take a black and white picture from a comic and color it in! with shading!
not to mention "oops, 1 pixel wrongs, have to go find out what its value was, omg lols "
but it works on a machine with over 9000KB of ram!
if this is the fastest growing plurk ever
actually everything i said before is not true
i dunno why i made it up.
boredom
would like to see somebody suffer and try doing a progressive gradient image blend ... IN PAINT
yeah. now apply that logic to photos and other existing works. it
*doesn't* work out so good
kent, you just have to paw harder.
kent, pixel by pixel editing
and other advanced techniques
yeah, as well as copying partial pixels from source to destination one at a time with shading applied
ie: for me, simply blend 2 colours in paint. thats time consuming enough, now, blend 2 colours from 2 different images vertically on top of
each other, while moving left to right the density bias.
lolpbollcks btw. If you can duplicate this with MS Paint you get an award for both amazingness and stupidity
quite pleased with the 8GB in his desktop. I'm programming Java, and I run a local vmware with apache and tomcat. 4GB wouldn't perform.
Yeah, that java thing just *eats* memory
