Last Filipino movie I watched was Sukob and watched it because it was a requirement for a subject back in high school.

I like Eugene Domingo's honesty and all.

For the record, I haven't watched movies similar to what Eugene Domingo made (Barber's Tales) but these are the types of movies I want to watch locally --

Not those ones we often see during MMFF. I'm sorry but I just don't feel like it. Asiong Salong and On The Job was said to be the ones who deserved awards and all -- haven't watched them though.

So, what's your call regarding this, guys?

The thing is, Philippine films seem to belong to one of two categories; either high concept/drama art pieces (like this one), or low end mass market cookie cutter throwaway films (e.g. MMFF).

If you're a movie goer that is looking for entertainment that gets you thinking, then neither is a good bet. ESPECIALLY if you're looking for genre movies.

There are no science fiction films, very few fantasy/horror films (and most of them terrible), and there's only one kind of comedy film (see above).

Occasionally you'll hear about something great like Blue Bustamante or RPG: Metanoia, but they never get any traction or exposure because they're not studio films.

The former title wasn't even shown in theaters.
