I'm generally pretty good about supporting my friends when I know they are doing fundraisers
I've bought all kinds of things, most of which I didn't need, because it mattered more to me to give my friends ten dollars or soemthing
but I have one friend who every time I see her selling commissions because she needs the money, I get annoyed
see, she's a henna artists and trying to start a business as a face painting stall
at a convention I spent 30 dollars for an amazing face mask painted on and got her loads of customers who admired it
and for a special event I had her do me up as well and paid her about 20 dollars for it even though it wasn't what I wanted at all
and for my wedding, I had my parents hire her
we were going to pay her about 4 hundred dollars
for her to do fancy magical make up and have a stall set up
and a couple days before the wedding, she called in sick and canceled
because she wanted to go to the monthly distopia rising zombie game instead
I've forgiven all the other guests who chose zombie larping over my wedding and last chance to see them before I left oregon
but every time I see her post on facebook about commissions and needing money...
I realize I haven't forgiven her yet
I am not happy with myself over it
but I was one of her biggest fans
and I tried really hard to help her get her business up
and she chose zombies over an event that was garanteed to make her more than her usual gigs
I'm tempted to buy something from her
but I can't bring myself to
That's just a dumb business decision...
it makes me feel like she's not serious about it
Paid Gig >>>>> Once a month LARP
I know she needs money, she's chronically broke
Paid Gig guarenteed to give her more business.
exactly, a game she had to pay to go to
There's a reason she's chronically broken I think
If she's really good, she'd have no problem getting money.
some of her stuff is just amazing
It's too bad her work ethic doesn't match.
and we were going to pay her extra for glitter tattooes
I'd be so super stoked if I had been her and invited to an event like that.
I mean, that's more people make in an entire month sometimes!
I mean, she was on the guest list anyway, so I felt bad about asking her to work it, but it was money she said she needed
we let her name the price and everything
for about an hour and a half of work, that's good money
but I saw all the facebook pictures of her as a zombie that weekend
it's been six months and it still bothers me
she posts on facebook every couple of days about money issues or about jobs that didn't net back the cost of the table there
and I just can't feel moved

That's amazing money for that little of work.
I would feel the exact same way.
I've been resisting the urge to post a negatice reveiw on her website ause I don't want to be a jerk
her work really is amazing though
and she was going to use the really fancy stuff

Sigh
Sometimes people just aren't good at being in business for themselves.
