Why do we spread condiments on bread with knives? The spoon is clearly a superior tool for the job.

it just confuses me? Like you can't even use a spreading knife to cut bread efficiently. I don't understand why its the cultural norm
Usually the condiments I use are sticky enough I can't get the last of them out of the spoon without mangling the bread
