it's true you really can't argue with that
english does what it wants
SORRY ABOUT OUR MULTI-PAGE LISTS OF EXCEPTIONS TO OUR ALLEGED RULES, KIDDO
a lot of the spelling makes more sense when you learn about all the letters we dropped, at least
a lot of the weirdness is adaptions for, like, norse letters that weren't part of the latin alphabet
which i (sort of) speak, and the pronunciation is internally consistent, much more so than english
it just follows different phonetic rules
mangez? mangeait? PRONOUNCED THE SAME
when does this action happen? WHO THE FUCK KNOWS, WRITE IT DOWN SO YOU CAN TELL
(it's not that bad but my husband gets comically angry about french phoenetics)
Good thing about Spanish is we say it like it's written
Which means when we try to pronounce English it's catastrophic
watching me try to read spanish is hilarious
"that's not how that's pronounced" "yes it is" "IN FRENCH MAYBE"
written they're close enough that i can usually figure out the meaning, but i open my mouth and it's catastrophic
My biggest problem is always the r
i can't roll the spanish r but i can do the french one
also americans love rolled r's so you're okay
Another thing kids don't get: how can things not have gender
high-class english (like england english) roll the r, too
Table is a she! No it isn't kiddo it's an it
only shit that moves has gender!
but again, we think it's cute if you use gender on objects so nbd
I do that all the time tbh one day I will stop
SO ADORBS which is not necessarily what you want to project but really if you slip sometimes no one will care
or huge douchebags but they'd be douchebags in any conversation
Ftr plurk is male, the plurk app is female
noun gender makes fuck-all sense
in french lock and key are both feminine and you'd think that'd be one of the easiest examples of intuitively gendering something
though thank you french for sparing me five solid minutes of guys going HURRRRRR in my high school french class
All planets are masculine but earth is la tierra????
"planete" is feminine in french
sun is masculine and moon is feminine :|9
Also a computer can be both: el ordenador or la computadora
Everyone else: it's a fucking computer
are you teaching the babbies how to use "fuck" appropriately?
but which i mean "fucking constantly"
NGL I USE FUCKING A LOT SO I HAVE TO USE A LOT OF SELF RESTRAIN
Also ellie you should probably ignore most of what I say because you probably study South American Spanish
We're the stuck ups of Spanish
you miss out on the bittersweet pain of wondering it this person is using usted to be polite or you really do look that old
