Oh I forgot Montana. And Wyoming should probs be yellow but really who cares about Wyoming
Mr. Vocabulary
wow offensive to Wyoming
Mr. Vocabulary
my dad's from that side of South Dakota, haha
立即下載
Mr. Vocabulary
no in all honesty he doesn't care about Wyoming either
ringer
rofl riiiiiiight
ringer
even wyomingans don't care about wyoming
Mr. Vocabulary
I'm pretty sure they don't
ringer
(ps they also have a canadian version for canadian peeps)
ringer
(but not international map, alas)
Mr. Vocabulary
mine is kind of sad
Mr. Vocabulary
I need to fill this in
Mr. Vocabulary
I FEEL diverse and cultured and exposed, but I guess not
Mr. Vocabulary
but my family drives everywhere haha
Mr. Vocabulary
I've only been on a plane three times (round trip)
ringer
That's insane
Mr. Vocabulary
everywhere on this map was driven to lol
Mr. Vocabulary
except Minnesota because I went by myself to Japanese language immersion camp
ringer
I've been on planes so many times idek. We used to have to fly to see my dad when I was super young. Then Utah to Chicago for relatives, Boston to Utah for holidays. Disneyland. Japan. Europe twice.
Mr. Vocabulary
I LOVE flying so I'm sad I don't get to do more of it
Mr. Vocabulary
like, honestly, I adore flying. every time I go, whoever I'm with thinks I'm slightly insane LOL
ringer
It's so old hat for me I don't really care about it anymore one way or another xD
Mr. Vocabulary
I get really excited abou tit
ringer
(as opposed to my bro who hates flying now)
ringer
That's awesome, haha
I am the only person on the planet who hates flying but loves airports
ringer
rofl yes probs
Mr. Vocabulary
but it's way way way cheaper when there's four people to drive than fly, and my dad used to hitchhike EVERYWHERE cross country when he was in the Navy off duty, so my parents don't mind driving
Mr. Vocabulary
actually they once drove to Texas and back along the coast, going the long way, while my mom was pregnant
ringer
chirality: Wait have you never traveled abroad?
Mr. Vocabulary
and my dad drove from South Dakota to Alaska with two other guys in a VW van in the 70's
Mr. Vocabulary
I've been to Paris once, for one week, but I spent most of it with migraines, nausea, and insomnia (pre sleeping pills) and hardly saw anything xD
ringer
My mom was single mom, so driving would have been too hard for most things. like we usually drove disney, but flew chicago etc. Too much time off etc
ringer
idkidk
ringer
And okay I thought so
Mr. Vocabulary
my parents were both self-employed when I was a kid so they set their own schedule, but obviously no pay for vacation time and all that
airports are cool! there are big windows to see the planes out of and all sorts of unique architecture in each one and moving walkways
and sometimes cool skybridges and minisubways, and there are tons of restaurants and stores
Mr. Vocabulary
oh and I went to the Caribbean on a cruise once
idk man i think airports are gr8
Mr. Vocabulary
I think airports are neat but I don't like crowds XD I deal with it on the plane because OMG FLYING GUYS!!
Mr. Vocabulary
how do you not get all fucking worked up about that
ringer
cinnamon_anemone: you should get a job at delta or something xD
ringer
idk I normally haaaaate large crowds but airports somehow bother me a LOT less
ringer
I think it's because generally people have a better idea where they're going and/or I have more direct goals so I just do those things
the concept of moving very quickly through the air is indeed exciting, but in practice planes are cramped and funny smelling and cold and dry and the food and drinks suck and sometimes I get motion sick
Mr. Vocabulary
I get that "science struck" sort of response, lol. similar to when I think too hard about the biological mechanisms going on in bodies
Mr. Vocabulary
all the dumb annoyances fade away
ringer
(1) fly jet blue or virgin if you can and (2) dramamine
ringer
omg I flew Virgin Airlines once and it was the best thing ever
Mr. Vocabulary
actually I did that earlier today explaining to my dad about what perms do to hair's amino bond structure that alters it to make it curly
My best experience was on Alaska Air
Mr. Vocabulary
airline advice is always valuable advice
their lunchboxes were amazing
ringer
It was europe to US and I got like two decent meals, three snacks, five free drinks (cape codes because free alcohol). Plus they let me store my carry on in the gap near my seat so I could sprawl out more.
chirality DISUFIDE BONDS
also your username is awesome
ringer
(that sounds hilarious)
ringer
oh also I flew business class once but that was like temporarily living in rich people world and it was weird
Mr. Vocabulary
HAHAHA THANKS hell yes you are the first person to get it / comment on it
Mr. Vocabulary
fuck yeah cysteines
ringer
..I just thought it was 21
Mr. Vocabulary
no it's the "chirality" part
ringer
ohhhh
Mr. Vocabulary
the 21 is a Persona 3 reference.... LOL I was thinking I should change it to a Don't Starve reference but I haven't picked one yet
I once saw a guy whose license plate was 3lobite and I yelled "I LOVE YOUR LICENSE PLATE" at him and we had a brief yelled convo as he drove by about it
ringer
riiiiiiiiiiight
Mr. Vocabulary
LMFAO nerd references ftw
thedarkfields ohhhh man we once got upgraded to first class when our flight was cancelled
it was swanky as hell
Mr. Vocabulary
I've heard of this mysterious first class but never experienced it for myself
Mr. Vocabulary
hell it's been seven years since I was last on a plane at all
the chairs are so big and squishy....
ringer
dude business class was insane. like they asked if I wanted a drink and I was like "water plz" and they brought me a champagne flute of sparkling water with a slice of lemon for before takeoff
Mr. Vocabulary
even just now I was thinking of sometime hauling out to visit you sometime, Ange, and my immediate instinct was "that would be a fun road trip, who could I sucker into going with me" instead of
Mr. Vocabulary
"how much are plane tickets"
Mr. Vocabulary
LMAO WOW HOT DAMN that is beyond sane
ringer
it's not a fun road trip
ringer
I have driven that trip
ringer
Boring flatlands
Mr. Vocabulary
man we used to drive to Florida every year when I was a kid, I KNOW WHAT I'M SPEAKING OF and we also drove to SD
ringer
Although if you do drive, there's a restaurant in Davenport, IA that's to die for
Mr. Vocabulary
I mean it would be fun because it's something I haven't seen before!
ringer
no but like the middle states all look the exact same
ringer
and don't have landmarks
ringer
like it's fun to illinois ish
ringer
and then colorado to utah
ringer
but in between is a flat land of corn
road trips will never, ever be fun for me. too much sibling bickering and carsickness trauma in my youth
Mr. Vocabulary
goddamn I just realized Utah is basically the west coast, that is a LONG trip to do both ways
ringer
I TOLD YOU
Mr. Vocabulary
I only get motion sick when I'm hungry! it's probably a self defense thing from being a child stuck in the car for a significant portion of my time LOL. I can read the whole way
ringer
cinnamon_anemone: yeah I get carsick too so I feel you there. thankful I don't do long trips much
ringer
fu reading in cars
ringer
MY GREATEST ENVY
Mr. Vocabulary
I was knitting in the car earlier today so there
chirality you can read?!? in the car?!?!???
ringer
If I read too many texts in a car I get sick (like as a passenger obv)
so... many... wasted.... hours.... that I could have been reading.....
ringer
let alone a book
Mr. Vocabulary
I used to read in the car for about three hours a day from 7th to 12th grade because I had such an absurd commute
ringer
ihu
Mr. Vocabulary
that's hilarious and tragic tbh
my greatest acheivement was once being able to read on a megabus for almost an hour
ringer
ooo
ringer
My greatest achievement was riding on a greyhound without getting carsick :|
Mr. Vocabulary
I don't actually know what I'd do with myself if I couldn't read in the car... probably have thrown myself out the car when I was eight at some point
ringer
(buses are usually worse for me)
OH YEAH MAN
long-distance buses are ok but
Mr. Vocabulary
I honestly think it's just that I spent SO MUCH TIME in a car growing up that my body never registered it as weird
public transit buses
I get naseous just looking at them
Mr. Vocabulary
LMAO so me reading on the school bus every day...
ringer
tbh I haven't spent a ton of time on public transit buses (I have usually done trains) but long distance I always get sick :c
ringer
omg chel
I was riding the metro every day practically from birth, and I still get motion sick
ringer
I was so happy in Boston because my commute was a 20min train or so and I was able to read
Mr. Vocabulary
I think kids used to ask me how I was doing that, actually
i f u c k i n g l o v e trains
ringer
Trains I'm 100% fine. Same with planes, roller coasters/rides, etc. But back seat of car or buses and I'm gone
far and away the most superior form of transit
Mr. Vocabulary
I GUESS I HAVE GOOD VESTIBULAR SYSTEM INNATELY THEN
ringer
get out with your science and superhuman skills
Mr. Vocabulary
it's the part of your inner ear that is responsible for telling your brain what your position in space is. basically, it being confused is what causes motion sickness iirc
ringer
I seeeee
ringer
OH I GET HORRIBLY SEA SICK TOO
Mr. Vocabulary
actually I fall asleep in moving cars / buses really easily, too, which is a goddamn miracle considering I don't sleep anywhere else
ringer
hence why I failed my scuba certification. because I was too sick to do it. :c
Mr. Vocabulary
Adam Savage on Mythbusters is NOTORIOUSLY susceptible to motion sickness, though. he basically steps on a boat and is hurling. you should watch the episode where they test motion sickness cures
ringer
I usually sleep on buses, which is the only way I survive them
Mr. Vocabulary
OH NOOOOO LOL OMG THAT'S AWFUL
ringer
oh I watched that episode, trust me
ringer
if the boat's moving I'm okay, but if it's just bobbing on the waves I'm super nauseous
Mr. Vocabulary
did you refrain from sympathy vomiting?
Mr. Vocabulary
so I shouldn't take you canoeing with me...
ringer
the worst is that I rarely actually throw up, just get SUPER NAUSEOUS but nausea is my literal least favorite thing
ringer
idk that might be okay if it's moving?
ringer
like river rafting vs hanging out in a lake
ringer
I was okay in speed boat and sail boat while moving, but sick when stopped
Mr. Vocabulary
maybe it's like, God's way of pitying me that I don't hardly ever get motion sick. I get nauseous at the drop of a hat when I'm stressed or hungry or tired otherwise. gotta have some respite
Mr. Vocabulary
canoes are slow as hell man
Mr. Vocabulary
unless you find a current you just idly drift around
Mr. Vocabulary
I mean I don't POWER CANOE we just kind of float around the salt marsh over here
ringer
I thought you were going to say it's God's way of telling me to keep moving or something ridic
I find kayaking better for seasickness. lower in the water, more stable, a lot less rocking
ringer
idk why I thought that but
Mr. Vocabulary
because you're dumb is why
Mr. Vocabulary
I can see why kayaking would be okay!
kayaking in salt marshes if my favorite fucking thing ever
ringer
probs
ringer
and kayaking souns fun
ringer
sounds
it's super fun
Mr. Vocabulary
canoes rock ALL THE TIME CONSTANTLY. I live about half a mile from a preserved salt marsh
you go hella fast and can go into super shallow water
Mr. Vocabulary
now I want to go out on it but it's like twenty degrees out there probs
ringer
I'm very adventurous but lack the initiative to come up with plans, so I haven't done most of these things
Mr. Vocabulary
I'm all initiative and too few fucks to apply it, in an entertaining reversal
a match made in heaven
ringer
ugh you make the plans and I'll make it happen
ringer
WITH OUR POWERS COMBINED
ringer
tbh this is probs why I'm friends with so many intjs
ringer
They're the ones that actually make plans >>
Mr. Vocabulary
HAHAHA we do get stereotyped as the evil genius mastermind that needs minions to enact all our insane, perfect schemes
you say that like it's a bad thing
Mr. Vocabulary
sometimes I see floundering NPs around and literally just step in and sort their shit out for them and they're like what the fuck did you just do that's amazing
Mr. Vocabulary
like a friend was overwhelmed with figuring out how to graduate with the degree she wanted with all the requirements, and I just sat her down and was like, okay bro, I'll make lists.
Mr. Vocabulary
and I laid out the whole fucking thing. I LOVE doing it. LOL
can I hire you
Mr. Vocabulary
but if I do it to SPs they get mad as hell instead of grateful
Mr. Vocabulary
SHOR I REALLY DO ENJOY IT I'M NOT KIDDING
tell me what to do, sensei
how the fuck do I apply to grad schools
Mr. Vocabulary
HAHAHA that's what I'm doing right now myself actually
Mr. Vocabulary
what sort of grad schools?
marine bio
ringer

Mr. Vocabulary

ringer
katsudonburi: okay I will consider checking out those bits next time I happen to be there. xD
devil's tower is fucking amazing
chirality what are you going to grad school for?
ringer
cinnamon_anemone: my sister in law went to one of those ones in San Diego or was looking into it.. I forget the name but it's good. xD
ringer
USD I think
Mr. Vocabulary
I'm trying to get into a pathologist's assistant program. sort of like being a physician's assistant, but for pathology, so you do surgical biopsies and autopsies
coooool
ringer

ringer
Chel you have to stay my friend so I can be like "yeah my friend does this"
thedarkfields yeah there are lots of great schools in california. I'm hoping to end up there or new england
Mr. Vocabulary
;laksdjpgh I do sometimes picture someone in RP having a question about a corpse and I could just lurch in like LET ME TELL YOU A THING
Mr. Vocabulary
ah, idle fantasies
i feel u bro
I was a morbid little child, I often considered that career path when I was young
Mr. Vocabulary
UConn Avery Point is an effing GORGEOUS campus, I can't emphasize this enough.
ringer
I have another friend who graduated in.. pathology I think. Master's, I want to say? idk derecho
my parents bought me Stiff for like, my 11th birthday
Mr. Vocabulary
it was some rich industrialist's present to his daughter so it's this old beautiful estate on a seaside cliff with a private beach.
I dont' know why they encouraged me
ringer
I only did the forensics thing for a year or so
Sunbreaker

ringer
katsudonburi: well sure I have seen the purple mountains etc. xD but it's still fairly bland to me having grown up in utah
Mr. Vocabulary
it's also really close to the Mystic Seaport if you care about old timey ship building, and the Groton naval sub base is the biggest aside from Hawaii and Georgia. plus Newport, RI is close and
Mr. Vocabulary
sometimes hosts the America's Cup race... SO YES THIS AREA IS ALL MARINE ALL THE TIME
aww yiss mystic is great
Mr. Vocabulary

ringer
I love those castle-y looking campuses
ringer
campuses/buildings
Mr. Vocabulary
Sarah Lawrence, my first school, looks castle-y too!
holy crap its own peninsula
Mr. Vocabulary
but yeah, Avery Point should be a strong contender for you. it's a very small campus because it's... 90% marine bio and nothing else LOL
Sunbreaker
I was just in Wyoming for field work this time, which meant drilling. So yeah. which is about as cool as it got
Mr. Vocabulary
oh and we're across from the tip of Long Island Sound so a lot of the marine bio students go out there for crap, I think?
ringer
omg that picture is gorg
Mr. Vocabulary
er, in the sound, across from the island xD
ringer

ringer

Mr. Vocabulary

Gatsby is supposed to take place in Long Island I think, yeah? idk I liked the recent movie but I'm not super into Gatsby as a thing
OLD SPORT
ringer
wut.
sorry that's my only contribution
ringer
I loved that book so much ;_;
Mr. Vocabulary
ringer
although my version of loving a thing is much less severe than most peoples'
Mr. Vocabulary
I liked it! I loved the imagery and the characters and the vagueness? I just didn't emotionally resonate
Mr. Vocabulary
I do know that my Leo memes are welcome in this plurk :-)
ringer
my homeboy DiCaprio
not my flavor of fiction, but it was certainly much more readable than a lot of what we had to slog through
Mr. Vocabulary
it still cracks me up that DiCaprio and Norton are such good friends. they're so similar, idk why it surprised me
ringer
They're both serious and what not, but I would have guessed they'd run in different crowds too
ringer
weird
aaagh oh god it's late I have to go
Mr. Vocabulary
as far as I know they haven't worked on anything together
ringer
The only problem with my work is that I legit get distracted RPing with PBs I've worked with. Like RPing with all these Karl Urbans and just being like "man I loved his accent"
Mr. Vocabulary
GO TO BED <3 it was nice chatting with you! if you want to chat about grad programs or whatever, shoot me a PP
but hey chirality u&me. we should talk science

Mr. Vocabulary
I believe your feeling on this over mine haha
Mr. Vocabulary
also spotted Mark Ruffalo and Ed Norton at a protest together
Mr. Vocabulary
how is this man so classy and professional, like, goddamn
ringer
Ruffalo is a super activist
ringer
As.. are DiCaprio and Norton
Mr. Vocabulary

Mr. Vocabulary

Mr. Vocabulary
my dentist is literally my childhood friend's father it's not exciting
Mr. Vocabulary
and my old dentist before him was my great-uncle. this is my small town life
ringer
because the dentist is normally v exciting
Mr. Vocabulary
people get all worked up about the dentist!
ringer
do they?
ringer
idk
Mr. Vocabulary
they definitely do

totally cool!
Mr. Vocabulary
oh, I actually... turned down the one school I already got into, which was for an MS in epi, because I decided epi didn't seem like the kind of thing I'd like after all, lol
Mr. Vocabulary
I'm still a bit conflicted about that decision but I guess it's already over with now xD
bucket
That's fine! Epid's just like everything else. Some people like it some people don't. A lot of people I graduated with hated it once they finished the program so at least you saved money!
Mr. Vocabulary
LMAO really? that does make me feel better. that's why I didn't go
Mr. Vocabulary
I didn't want to have so much debt for a career I felt lukewarm about, haha
Mr. Vocabulary
everyone in the program that accepted me was so sweet and amazing, though, when I went there for a tour. I felt bad.

You don't need to feel bad at all!
