Certain blends are giving me a slightly dry/itchy throat, sinus issues, etc. No respiratory distress or anything, but enough that it's uncomfortable to drink. :|
So now I'm going to have to start keeping track. Originally I thought it might just be green tea, but now I'm not sure because a white tea did it too??
Boo.
Chamomile is related to ragweed
But I've never heard of an ingested allergen inducing hay fever
Usually something has to be inhaled for that to happen, afaik
But I suppose, since some teas have flowers, it's worth looking into cutting floral teas out
Jasmine and earl grey and the like
toriangeli: It's possible the sinus thing was something else? But I always get the dry throat and mild itching.
I have no idea how these things work. I just know what my body does and I'm like 'wtf are you doing'
Dry throat and itching can be a sign of allergies. That's what my mom gets when she eats spinach
Okay. I don't really have food allergies, so I wasn't sure
do you add anything to the tea? you should inspect your tea making equipment too
chirality: No I don't add anything. What do you mean inspect? I can wash my spoon I guess but I use a mixture of steepers.
it sounds like a mild allergic reaction to a particular ingredient. does the packaging have a list?
I was wondering if your stuff had cross contamination. like maybe it's not a tea ingredient but something else it comes into contact with
Ahh. Nah, all my tea stuff stays pretty isolated. I user a specific tea spoon and mugs (that no one else uses), hand wash, etc.
I wonder if it's not a flavor additive.
maybe try straight green tea sometime and see what happens? I'm sending you some matcha
there could be some chemical additive that you find irritating.
Possibly. The previous green and this white were both blends, so it might be chamomile or something
i've never heard of anyone being allergic to tea itself, but stuff like citrus oils or other fruit could be a culprit
greenanddying: An old coworker of mine told me about working with her doctor to figure out she was allergic to green teas but not black because of something in how it was processed? But that's all I've heard.
green tea is less processed so there could be compounds in it that haven't been broken down by the oxidization process black tea goes through
I'm just hoping it's a specific flavor or something for me and not a type of tea. :c I love tea so much.
i'd assume additive before tea
fruit allergies are reasonably common
especially citrus, pineapple, and mango
I'm def not allergic to any fruits, haha. I eat fruit like crazy. Possibly some flower or nuts or something thing.
You know what else I just realized that might be relevant.. I ate dairy that day, which weakens my immune system. idk if allergies are affected by that kind of thing.
i'd think it'd be the other way around
since allergies are you immune system basically trying to fight everyone in the bar
Oh well I'm p sure I'm allergic to dairy so that's why it kills my immune system?
