also, Nathaniel's suggestions are not the only two options. They're the options we mods had thought of as possible solutions
so if you guys can think of anything else besides those two things, we are game for discussing it |Db
Mwahaha. Time to wrack Colin's brain!
(He's already got one idea, but it's a long term solution, and it's only a patchwork solution... The more immediate solutions are going to take some thought.)
The Bastion automatically produces enough food for all its residents right? (not sure if ICly known?) So if they dragged the Ura back with them they'd be fed as long as they stayed, wouldn't they?
That's an option, but it's also a risky one. XD
I can't imagine certain people would be happy with that solution.
(Though others would definitely love it. Assuming, of course, that the Ura accepted.)
GoggleDragon that is a possibility! it is also possible that the farm simply makes a certain amount of food and that theresidents of the Bastion have never numbered more than what the farm can provide for
Megaera's solution, if the situation's assumed to be a short-term one - just use Shards to generate some immediate stuff that can be delivered
NekoIncardine it's 'short term' as in 'at least one growing season', so a few months minimum
possibly more if their crops crap out again
husbando: Her logic would be "a hundred days' food for however many there are costs how many shards?"
that would be a good estimate actually
If the crops fail a second time, then more serious measures need to be taken. An expanded farm capacity (and granaries or other storage aiding measures) would really be ideal anyhow
They do, at least, have the ability to give the Ura more time. /looks at the cannery and food stores that Colin set up.
Not a LOT, but... it's a start.
I actually had that in mind too. The cannery will help, but yeah. It's not a long-term solution for 50+ people
for atleast a hundred days, if notmore
There would be rationing, and even then, it would only last maybe two weeks.
But at least it would be a show of good faith while they worked towards something bigger!
(Rob, your cart is going to be seeing a lot of use, I think.)
yeah that is another part to factor i
how often trips need to be made (it's more than a day's worth of walking WITHOUT being weighted down with food and stuff)
and how to protect all that food from hungry monsters while in transit
One other issue: So we need to deliver, assuming high-efficiency stuff comparable to D&D's Trail Rations, 10000 pounds of food. Not easy on the Skyway.
lots of different parts to factor in with this
Megaera has one spell that can help a little: Tenser's Floating Disk can let her drag 500ish pounds for five hours.
(btw whatever you guys decide to do, if it can be feasibly done and there are enough people/supplies to do it, the actual foodthings can be handwaved, instead of threading out the trip every couple of IC days)
That's a start, as is Rob's cart.
XD Colin's brainstorming as we speak. As I said, he has some ideas...
Tobias can morph dragon and haul things for two hour periods, and Golurk is pretty damn strong.
Rob: /finally all that work to make the cart will see use! /internal fistpump
be sure to do the discussing ICly too, so the characters can talk about it ICly and come to an IC decision
If the Ura are WILLING to work with him... He'll probably spend a fair amount of time with them building a lot of stuff. But that's an interesting "If".
they need to talk about that journal too
so it is a discussion that could happen
Moon says he can kill monsters for them, but they should already be doing that so it wouldn't help with 'crops'
Tobias can handle mammoths but. You know. Humans can't survive on just meat and as far as he's seen Ura are just another type of human.
they are actually a type of lizard people
Actually humans can - the Inuit traditionally did - you just have to eat the entire animal, organs and all (and they chewed on fish bones for calcium too, iirc)
Organ meat, yummy nutrients.
Tobias left school in like sixth or seventh grade and most of what he knows about science comes from turning into animals.
I still need to have him bug Colin about books or something.
next Bastion upgrade: a school for all the kids
Colin would approve of that. /sage nod.
I need to figure out how much it would cost Otoha to get his books back I need to screenshot that room. It has a lot of random books that might be useful in the Bastion.
... not that Otoha actually likes to read, he kinda got forced into it.
Di is still not quite invested in bastion but she'd hunt anyhow. Better to be for a good cause. If they end up sending food
The big risk with hunting, of course... is OVER-hunting... it's still a wasteland out there.
also I wasn't sure if I was supposed to tag the ongoing thread or make a new one so
Where's Rosethorn when she'd be useful?
Rapid-growing a batch of crops would be great right about now. Enough to tide them over, and then enough to provide the other group with seeds to start their own farms.
Yeah I was just thinking of her
I want to reapp her, but I was hoping to wait til my health was under control and I wasn't having to drug myself every day in order to avoid the hospital. >_> I'm so tired.
Right now, we can make do without her.
Tobias isn't going to argue strategy with you, Colin. It's not going to end well.
Probably wise. XD But Colin's REALLY not wanting to go down the path of cutting them off. The casualty projections are... not pleasant.
and now Raile of all people's got an idea
Though he's putting it past Nathaniel first
Colin likes Raile's idea already, it's similar to one he was having.
/heads off to run end-of-day errands.
and Zuzu proposes the inviting them over option
Zuko the apocalypse is not the time for tea parties
if Iroh has taught her anything, it is that it is always time for tea parties
Colin, once again, approves.
...now I kind of really want Zuko hosting a tea party for the Ura. her z-name kin.
That said, between the thieves, the Ura, and his differences with some people, Colin may start working on some active defenses for his workshop. XD
why not just bring over the dwarven centurion?
You can NEVER have enough Dakka.
Translation: A Dwarven Centurion is good. A Dwarven Centurion backed up with a half dozen turrets is better.
Don't blow the Bastion up too
Moon seconds eat it all- /will try a phone tag-
Would new players have to check in too? Like just got accepted players?
Ibuki has nothing of value to add but silly comments and confusion. Ura? Whut?
jackabee you do not have to no, since you just got accepted
Okay, thanks for the clarification! :3
oh also otoha is missing a tag
should be 'yosuke otoha' even if he never uses his given name
whoops|D I will poke Leia into fixing that when she is on
I dare not poke at the tags on comms, they are a thing I do not understand
you just log into the mod account, click 'edit tags', and go ", yosuke otoha"
it's okay I understand the nervous
