The eternal debate in New England: Why isn't meese the plural of moose?

ScarletCSkylaC: North Western Canada. We have a lot of moose, deer, bears, foxes, wolves etc..

Moose are usually more private animals, you don't see them as often, unless it's mating season. But I have seen a lot of tracks (their tracks are quite different than deer) around my property.
