she's Nunnally's mom, and she seemed to be super cool at the time

low born knight! winning the emperor's heart!

the other noble ladies laughed at her but she was like "BITCH I GOT 99 PROBLEMS BUT YOUR OPINIONS AREN'T ONE OF THEM"

Charles fell deeply in love, told her about his super great plan, and she was like, YES I'M ON BOARD

but then Charle's god brother thing got jealous! so he lured Marianne into a trap where he killed her

and in an effort to cover his tracks, he shot nunnally in the legs and it seems like he altered her memories so that she thought it was a terrorist attack

Charles finds out about his bro's scheme, and how does he handle the situation?

BY MAGICALLY CURSING NUNNALLY SO THAT SHE CAN'T SEE

AND THEN SENDING HER AND HER BROTHER TO JAPAN AS POLITICAL HOSTAGES

his defense is that he was protecting them so that his brother would have absolutely no reason to come after them again

but yeah, tbh my interpretation is that both of the parents "cared" about their kids, but not really at all

they thought they cared, but in the end they abandoned their kids to pursue their god killing world ending dream
