the difference is, he looked at a great many alternates, and he chose Charlotte

he didn't just glom by default

he examined everything and decided i her for good reasons

anyway he's delightful and Bianca rather badly wants him to be her frand as well

He's always been good at choosing the right person to reflect, given enough time. (And if anything softens him to Bianca, seeing how legit upset she is might do)
